Cho Gao District has just handed over and repaired a gratitude house to Ms. Tran Thi Tuyet (born in 1962), the daughter of martyr Tran Huu Ngan, residing in Binh Tho Dong Hamlet, Binh Phan Commune. This house was supported by the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Binh Phan Commune.
“Without the attention of the State, organizations, and philanthropists, I would not have been able to have a solid house. The previous house of gratitude was degraded and my family did not have the means to repair it. Now, with support from the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in Binh Phan commune, my family has a solid house and a stable life,” Ms. Tuyet confided.
Many families are poor or near-poor households with little land for production and are raising their children to study, so despite their efforts over the years, they have not been able to escape poverty. The attention and support for new houses will create motivation to help families have more conditions to rise up, stabilize their lives, and escape poverty sustainably.
As one of the 7 houses being built under the Temporary and Dilapidated House Elimination Program, Ms. Le Thi Nguyet (Zone 2, Cho Gao Town) shared: “Due to difficult circumstances, my family will build a house within our means with whatever support the government provides. I would like to thank the local authorities for considering and supporting my family to have a new house, so that we can feel secure about our housing and focus on developing our family economy.”
While busy arranging materials, bricks, cement..., Mr. Chau Van Nhan, Long Binh Dien commune, could not hide his joy when receiving support to build a new house. Mr. Nhan said: “My family is a near-poor household, working hard but still not enough money to repair or rebuild the house that has been degraded for a long time. Fortunately, the State and all levels are interested and supporting my family to build a new house. With the help of neighbors, the house is gradually being completed, my family is very excited”.
After screening, Phu Kiet commune has 3 near-poor households that are eligible for housing support under the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses and are currently quickly starting construction. According to the leader of Phu Kiet commune, the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses has established a team to go to each household to finalize the list and provide guidance on how to overcome difficulties in housing land, so that eligible households will be supported to build houses as soon as possible.
In addition to providing specific guidance and support for people in the program, from a local perspective, we hope that the Social Policy Bank will have additional loan support programs associated with the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for people in need of borrowing additional small amounts of capital to build new, more spacious houses.
Responding to the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025" launched by the Prime Minister; implementing the Plan of the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses of Tien Giang Province on the implementation of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province, Cho Gao district strives to complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the entire district before April 30. Through screening, in phase 1, there is 1 household in the district that is eligible for support to build new houses and repair houses under the Temporary and Dilapidated House Elimination Program and in phase 2, there are 7 households that are eligible.
Head of the Department of Internal Affairs of Cho Gao District, Vo Van Chat, said: In implementing the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, communes and towns in the district are actively reviewing and removing difficulties in many proactive ways to ensure that all eligible households are supported to build new houses and repair houses according to the program. The biggest difficulty for the locality in implementing the Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is the issue of residential land.
Through review, most households eligible for support in the program have residential land, mostly agricultural land that has not been converted to another purpose. To address this difficulty, the district leaders have directed the People's Committees of communes, towns, and district departments to coordinate in reviewing, supporting, and guiding people to convert land use purposes on a case-by-case basis.
At the same time, during the implementation process, the district directed to strictly follow the steps, check the right people, standards, purposes, not duplicate programs, other support activities from the state budget. Comply with the order and procedures according to legal regulations, not to let loss, waste, corruption, negativity happen, publicly post according to regulations, to ensure objectivity and transparency in selecting and considering housing support for each case.
