Spring is arriving, knocking on the doors of every region, every home, every community. Journalist and poet Nguyen Hong Vinh seems to be "racing" with spring, having recently visited the Northern Delta, then the Mekong Delta; from the Northwest, he traveled to the port city of Hai Phong . And now, he arrives in the red basalt plateau, overflowing with coffee, rubber, and various kinds of green vegetables. "She" in the poem is happily going to the fields, the highland "wind" blowing through her smooth black hair, coincidentally meeting her lover visiting the specialized production area. Beautiful memories flood back. Cherished dreams now have a chance to "sprout," allowing "him" to boldly ask: " This spring, perhaps...?" "She" remains silent, and "he" takes another step: "If we don't pick them, they'll fall!" The innocent, poetic love story is "wrapped" by the author in romantic imagery: " The sunset sinks behind the mountains / Hand in hand, we descend the pass." A new dawn will break for the couple who have nurtured their love through hard work, though arduous, but optimistic because they have found meaning in life.
We are pleased to present this poem about the love between a couple, which creates the springtime beauty of the highlands:
THE BEAUTY OF THE HIGHLANDS
Dedicated to Le Vi Thuy
"Pleiku in the windy season" 1
Her hair blows across the hillside
The stream slowed down.
Is there a strand of your hair that fell?!
A basket heavy with corn and potatoes
She walked and sang.
I met him halfway up the mountain pass.
The fatigue quickly disappears!
Lake Lak is dry this season.
As if the memories of us still remain.
Sentiments under the bright moon
The night was damp with dew…
The coffee forest is laden with fruit.
Golden rice terraces
We met when we went to the fields.
He tentatively asked, "This spring?!"...
The main coffee harvest season
The entire hillside glowed brightly.
He smiled as happily as if it were Tet (Vietnamese New Year):
"If you don't pick them, they'll fall off!"
Bright yellow wildflowers
Traversing winding hills
The sun sets behind the mountains.
Hand in hand, we descended the mountain pass…
