From July 1, 2024, customers who want to make transfers of over VND 10 million or cumulative over VND 20 million/day will have to authenticate biometrics on the bank's application according to the provisions of Decision 2345/QD-NHNN.
This regulation is to enhance security and ensure safety for online banking transactions. Below is a detailed guide on how to perform biometric authentication, which only takes about 10 minutes.
Log in to banking app
When you log into your banking app during this time, a notification prompting you to verify your biometrics will be placed at the top of your screen, making it easy to click to do so. If the notification doesn’t appear on your home screen, you can find it in Settings or Accounts.
Log in to VPBank App and you will receive a biometric verification notification.
For example, in the VPBank app, this notification appears right after logging in, while with Vietinbank, you can access the FacePay Settings section in Transaction Authentication - Settings.
Take a photo of your ID card
The first step is to take a photo of your citizen identification card (CCCD).
The first step in the authentication process is to take a photo of the CCCD. You need to clearly take three parts: the front, the QR code on the right edge of the front, and the back of the CCCD. To ensure image quality, place the CCCD on a smooth surface without direct light to avoid glare, which will prevent the application from recognizing it.
Face authentication
The app will require facial authentication. You should choose places with few people and objects behind.
After taking the CCCD photo, the application will ask for facial authentication. Choose a place with few people, few objects behind and good lighting for the face to be recognized clearly. You will need to turn your face left, right, bend down and look straight at the camera. Do these movements slowly to avoid mistakes and having to do it again.
Chip-based CCCD authentication
The final step is to authenticate the chip-embedded CCCD. To do this step, you need to enable the NFC feature on your smartphone.
The final step is to authenticate the chip-embedded citizen identification card.
For iPhone: NFC is always on.
When you use an Android phone: Go to Settings > Connections to turn on NFC.
After turning on NFC, you bring the CCCD with the chip near the back of the smartphone and hold it for about 3-4 seconds for the application to read the information on the card. Once the application has recognized the information, you check all personal information again and confirm to complete the authentication process.
