The change in crop structure in localities in the province in recent times has promoted the advantages of climate and soil, suitable to the production level and intensive cultivation of farmers; thereby bringing higher economic efficiency than before, contributing to increasing the production value per hectare of cultivation.
Promoting the conversion of crop structure has contributed to increasing the production value per hectare of cultivated land in the province from over 173 million VND/hectare in 2017 to 245 million VND/hectare in 2024. Many conversion models have brought high economic value to farmers, and are also typical examples for farmers in other localities to learn from. In particular, the model of converting to growing flowers and ornamental plants brings an average income of 800 million VND to 1 billion VND/hectare/year, especially the model of converting to producing potted flowers and ornamental plants in the communes of Xuan Quan and Phung Cong (Van Giang) brings an income of 1.5 - 3 billion VND/hectare. The model of converting from growing corn, beans... to producing fruit trees in the districts of Khoai Chau and Kim Dong... brings an average income of 1 - 1.5 billion VND/hectare/year...
Comrade Nguyen Quoc Chuong, Vice Chairman of Van Giang District People's Committee said: In order to achieve the goal of developing high-efficiency commodity agriculture, the district has planned agricultural production areas, thereby forming a number of concentrated raw material areas such as: Flower and ornamental plant production areas with high economic value in Xuan Quan commune, Phung Cong commune with a total area of over 350 hectares... By the end of 2024, the whole district has converted more than 2,100 hectares of low-efficiency agricultural land to grow fruit trees, flowers, ornamental plants, and construction trees with high economic value. The efficiency of crop structure conversion has increased the income value of one hectare of cultivated land in the district in 2024 to 416 million VND.
Assessing the effectiveness of crop restructuring, Mr. Nguyen Van Trang, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: Crop restructuring has contributed to changing the form of production organization and production thinking of farmers, in which shifting from small-scale, household production to large-scale concentrated production, forming cooperatives and cooperatives linked to the industry value chain, contributing to improving production efficiency. The transformation models have gradually shifted towards organization, safe and sustainable production. Areas with crop restructuring have received attention and investment in the direction of improving productivity, quality and product value.
In the coming time, to effectively convert crop structure, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has oriented some solutions for localities to implement. In which, localities proactively develop plans to convert crop structure, giving priority to converting low-efficiency rice growing areas and annual crop growing areas (corn, beans, peas, etc.) outside the Red River and Luoc River banks, in which the focus of conversion is associated with the development of key agricultural products of the province. Perennial fruit trees, developed in the direction of specialization, closely linking production with preservation, processing industry and consumption market. Focus on grafting and improving with early-ripening longan varieties, old longan varieties (old pulp, rock sugar, etc.) specialties or longan varieties that meet export standards. Expand the planting area of Hung Yen egg lychee, early-ripening hybrid lychee Hung Yen, grafting and improving Hung Yen egg lychee varieties... on hybrid lychee rootstocks. The group of flowers, ornamental plants, and seedling production needs to be converted to high-altitude fields with good to good soil quality; 100% of the fruit tree, flower, and ornamental plant production area of the concentrated production area is from 5 hectares or more and is implemented according to the chain ensuring safety standards, has a brand name, and a large part of the fruit tree area is produced and certified to meet VietGAP standards...
