Hung Ha: Urgently planting the summer rice crop.

In recent days, taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, farmers in Hung Ha district have concentrated their manpower and resources on the fields to accelerate the progress of planting the summer rice crop, ensuring it is done within the best timeframe.

The lush green rice seedlings in trays are being carefully tended to by farmers in Hung Ha district, ensuring proper techniques and ready for planting.

At just 6 a.m., in the fields of Dan Chu commune, farmers were already busily sowing and planting rice, racing against time. The sounds of plows, harrows, and transplanters, mixed with laughter and conversation, made the rural scene even more lively.

Mr. Nguyen Van Manh from Phu Hoi village shared: "After finishing the spring rice harvest, my family quickly brought out the machinery to the fields to prepare the land and sow seedlings according to the seasonal schedule. This year, my family maintained the cultivation of nearly 10 acres of rice fields. With a sense of urgency and applying the method of tray seedling cultivation and machine transplanting, my family completed the planting of the entire area in just two days."

This year, Dan Chu commune aims to plant rice on over 240 hectares. To date, the entire commune has planted 90% of the area, including 40 hectares planted using machinery.

Mr. Dinh Van Sam, Director of Dan Chu Agricultural Service Cooperative, said: "To ensure timely production, we have propagated and encouraged farmers to prepare the land immediately after harvesting the spring rice crop; the cooperative has prepared sufficient rice seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides to serve the farmers; and assigned the irrigation team to closely monitor the fields, inspect the rice paddies, and organize pumping and water regulation appropriately to ensure that the fields have enough water for farmers to sow and plant. In addition, the cooperative has encouraged people to proactively eradicate golden apple snails immediately after planting to protect the newly planted rice."

In the fields of Dong Phu village, Doc Lap commune, fresh green rice seedlings are being quickly transported to the fields by members of the Agricultural Service Cooperative for planting. Since 2012, with the support of the province and district, the cooperative has invested nearly 1 billion VND to purchase 3 rice transplanters and 14,000 seedling trays, organizing planting for 50 hectares of land for local farmers at a cost of 280,000 - 300,000 VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters).

Mr. Dao Van Thong, Director of the Cooperative, said: Currently, one rice transplanter can transplant 4-5 acres per day. The cooperative provides comprehensive services for farmers from land preparation, seedling sowing, and rice transplanting. Thanks to the active application of mechanization, agricultural production in Doc Lap is more convenient than before. According to calculations from the spring crop of 2023, rice yield from transplanting by machine is 7% higher than that from traditional methods.

Mr. Nguyen Van Xung, from Bui Xa village, said: "My family cultivates 2.5 acres of rice. Previously, during the planting season, we had to hire people to transplant the rice seedlings, paying an average of 300,000 - 400,000 VND per day, not including the cost of seeds and seedling care. Now, switching to machine transplanting has significantly reduced costs and labor, taking only about 20 minutes per sao (approximately 1000 square meters) at a cost of 280,000 VND per sao. The application of transplanting machines in production has brought clear benefits such as reduced labor, lower production costs, faster production within the best planting season, improved rice transplanting techniques, reduced pest and disease problems, and thus contributed to increased rice production efficiency."

Farmers in Hung Ha district are actively applying mechanization to production.

According to the plan, Hung Ha district will plant 10,500 hectares of rice in the 2023 crop season, with 60-65% of the area dedicated to high-yield varieties and the remainder to varieties producing high-quality rice. To ensure a successful crop season, the District People's Committee has directed communes and towns to strengthen propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage people to adopt innovative thinking, apply scientific and technological advancements to intensive farming, plan production areas according to model fields, and strictly adhere to the rice variety structure and planting schedule.

Mr. Pham Van Binh, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of the district, said: "To ensure 100% of the area is planted according to the correct seasonal schedule and crop structure, we have advised farmers to mobilize all available resources to quickly prepare the land as soon as the rice harvest is completed, and to flexibly transfer tillage machines between localities. At the same time, we have directed agricultural service cooperatives to coordinate with suppliers of quality seeds, materials, and fertilizers for farmers; and proactively manage water supply and drainage for production. Currently, localities in the district have planted nearly 6,000 hectares; taking advantage of favorable weather, we are urging farmers to concentrate manpower to accelerate the land preparation and planting of the remaining rice crop. Simultaneously, we are actively controlling rats using manual methods or biological bait, catching golden apple snails, and caring for the planted rice to ensure the rice quickly takes root and turns green."

With close supervision of agricultural production and the proactive approach of local authorities in starting production right from the beginning of the season, farmers in Hung Ha district are promised another prosperous and bountiful harvest this year.
