On the morning of September 20 (New York time, the same day as Vietnam time), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Ms. Aurélia Nguyen, strategic director of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI).
Ms. Aurélia Nguyen is one of the important leaders in strategy and policy in the field of vaccines globally. She is French of Vietnamese origin, and has a lot of affection for her homeland Vietnam.
Meanwhile, GAVI is one of three agencies and organizations coordinating the COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Initiative (COVAX).
During the time Vietnam and the world were dealing with COVID-19, Ms. Aurélia Nguyen regularly called and sent letters to senior Vietnamese leaders.
COVAX has provided Vietnam with more than 70 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines free of charge, far exceeding the COVAX commitment for Vietnam of 38.9 million doses.
At the reception in New York, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked Ms. Aurélia Nguyen for her valuable support to Vietnam during the most difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Prime Minister asked GAVI and Ms. Aurelia Nguyen personally to increase support for Vietnam in accessing vaccines to prevent epidemics, develop strategies and plans to improve expanded immunization, and receive technology transfer of mRNA vaccines.
The Prime Minister also hopes that Ms. Aurélia Nguyen will help connect with reputable foreign experts, organizations and businesses that are willing to cooperate and facilitate the transfer of technology and skills in producing biological products and vaccines to Vietnamese partners.

Ms. Aurélia Nguyen expressed her strong impression that Vietnam, from a country facing many difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has, in just a short time, become the country with the highest vaccination coverage in the world, while quickly recovering and developing its socio-economy.
Ms. Aurélia Nguyen hopes that the two sides will continue to cooperate to produce vaccines against epidemics in the future. She affirmed that she is and will continue to support Vietnam in implementing vaccination programs for common diseases.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh awarded Ms. Aurélia Nguyen the Friendship Medal of the State of Vietnam.
This is the recognition and appreciation of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for her important support when Vietnam faced many difficulties due to COVID-19.
GAVI's Strategy Director expressed his honor to receive the noble medal of the State of Vietnam.
She affirmed that she will continue to cooperate closely and effectively with the Vietnamese health sector, including moving towards eliminating measles and rubella, improving vaccination quality, and supporting the cold chain for vaccine preservation.
