Song Xoai Green-Skin Grapefruit Cooperative launches products processed from grapefruit

The business room is designed as a place for cooperative members to meet customers, exchange grapefruit growing techniques, seek cooperation opportunities to expand the market, sell agricultural materials, seedlings and products processed from grapefruit.

On the occasion of the above event, Song Xoai Green-Skin Grapefruit Cooperative also introduced new product lines processed from post-harvest grapefruit including: fermented grapefruit juice, grapefruit jam, grapefruit pulp, and grapefruit for export.

Sharing at the ceremony, Mr. Ho Hoang Kha, Deputy Director of Song Xoai Green-Skin Grapefruit Cooperative said that the application of science and technology in cultivation helps Song Xoai grapefruit have a stable crop, high yield and good quality.

However, there was a time when the price of grapefruit dropped, the supply was too much, forcing gardeners to dump the fruit, which was a huge waste. After reaching an agreement with the members, the Board of Directors of the Cooperative decided to invest in machinery, equipment and human resources to produce and process products that make full use of grapefruit.

The opening of the business office and the launch of post-harvest grapefruit processed products mark an important shift from agricultural production to agricultural economics , increasing the value of grapefruit trees, increasing income not only for gardeners but also helping people in the region have more jobs by participating in the production of grapefruit products.

Mr. Ho Hoang Kha added that thanks to mastering processing techniques plus local raw materials, the cost of processed products of Song Xoai Green-Skin Grapefruit Cooperative is 20 to 30% lower than the market level.

Specifically, dried grapefruit jam costs 80,000 VND/200gr jar; fermented grapefruit costs 170,000 VND/500ml bottle. In the future, the cooperative will continue to launch more grapefruit products such as grapefruit essential oil, grapefruit flower tea, grapefruit incense, etc.

It is known that Song Xoai Green-Skin Grapefruit Cooperative currently has 120 members, cultivating a total area of ​​nearly 300 hectares of grapefruit in fruiting period.

Since 2022, the cooperative has gradually switched to organic grapefruit cultivation. To date, the cooperative has 5 hectares of organic grapefruit, 30 hectares of grapefruit meeting VietGAP standards, and 18 hectares of grapefruit granted a growing area code for export to the US. In 2024, the cooperative exported 12 tons of green-skin grapefruit to the US market.

It is expected that this April, 30 tons of green-skinned grapefruit from the cooperative will continue to be exported to the US. The cooperative's grapefruit products have been recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as meeting 4-star OCOP standards.
