Binh Minh Cooperative was established in 2017, in Ea Po commune, Cu Jut district ( Dak Nong ). After more than 6 years of operation, the Cooperative has achieved many outstanding achievements in production and business. Currently, the Cooperative is cooperating with 825 farming households to grow pepper according to international standards. This is 1 of 13 cooperatives that have achieved Rainforest Alliance certification in Vietnam.
Director of Binh Minh Cooperative, Mr. Le Anh Son, in Tan Son village, Ea Po commune, Cu Jut district, Dak Nong province, shared that Vietnam is currently one of the leading countries in the production and export of coffee and pepper. In particular, the Central Highlands region plays the role of the "capital" of these two strategic agricultural products.
According to Mr. Le Anh Son, Director of Binh Minh Cooperative, the world's coffee and pepper inventories are scarce, leading to a sudden increase in prices in recent times.
However, after nearly 7 years of operating in the pepper and coffee sector, Binh Minh Cooperative has realized many challenges that farmers face in optimizing profits from production.
One of the biggest difficulties is that farmers still lack knowledge about the market and do not have the conditions to properly preserve agricultural products.
In fact, after harvest, many farmers have to sell in bulk or send coffee and pepper to agents due to lack of standard warehouses to store goods.
This leads to oversupply during harvest time, resulting in heavily affected export values.
Currently, the world's coffee and pepper inventories are scarce, leading to a sharp increase in prices in recent times. Specifically, coffee prices have increased from 50,000 - 51,000 VND/kg in April 2023 to 134,000 - 134,200 VND/kg in April 2024. Similarly, pepper prices have increased from 70,000 - 72,000 VND/kg in June 2023 to 176,000 - 180,000 VND/kg in June 2024.
Binh Minh Cooperative proposes solutions to stabilize coffee and pepper prices.
To maintain stable prices and increase income for coffee and pepper growers, Binh Minh Cooperative has proposed a number of specific solutions to optimize the agricultural market, helping to stabilize agricultural prices.
Proposal to the President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union
Binh Minh Cooperative recommends that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union coordinate with local Farmers' Unions to propagate and guide farmer members to apply solutions to help stabilize agricultural product prices, specifically as follows: Only sell coffee and pepper when necessary, this helps reduce supply pressure on the market, keeping agricultural product prices high.
Do not consign agricultural products to unreliable units to ensure that farmers' products are well preserved and do not lose value.
Avoid borrowing money to speculate on agricultural products, this helps limit financial risks and avoid price pressure during market fluctuations.
Stay calm in the face of price volatility, while encouraging farmers to make smart financial decisions rather than reacting in panic to market changes.
According to Mr. Le Anh Son, the synchronous application of these solutions will help control the supply of coffee and pepper, forcing international partners to pay higher prices for Vietnamese agricultural products.
Recommendations to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development
Binh Minh Cooperative also requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to recommend the Government and local authorities to support the construction of standard warehouses to help farmers preserve coffee and pepper more effectively. This will not only help stabilize prices but also enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market.
In the context of Vietnam leading in the production and export of coffee and pepper in the world, Binh Minh Cooperative offers practical solutions to stabilize prices and increase export value of agricultural products.
The solutions proposed by Binh Minh Cooperative demonstrate its determination to support farmers in overcoming difficulties, increasing the economic value of coffee and pepper, and enhancing the reputation and competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the world market.
Binh Minh Cooperative also hopes that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will carefully consider the above proposals and take specific actions to support farmers and cooperatives in the coming time, contributing to the sustainable development of Vietnam's agricultural sector.
