Houthis said their forces attacked the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Red Sea and the cargo ship Transworld Navigator in the Arabian Sea, according to Reuters.

In a statement, the Houthis said the Transworld Navigator was hit by a missile and that the operation against the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower had successfully achieved its goal, but did not provide details or say when the attacks took place. There was no immediate word on the US military's response.

Earlier, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree announced that the force had launched a missile targeting the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier in the Red Sea on May 31 in response to the US and UK airstrikes in Yemen.

Mr. Saree said the attacks by the two Western countries killed 16 people and wounded 41, including civilians. The attacks targeted the Salif port in Hodeidah province, a radio building in the Al-Hawk district, the Ghalifa area and two houses.

The US and UK militaries previously announced that they had attacked Houthi targets in Yemen on May 30 to prevent this force from affecting maritime activities in the Red Sea.

Since 2023, the Houthis have used missiles and drones to attack commercial ships in the Red Sea. A report by the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) on June 13 showed that 65 countries and 29 businesses have encountered difficulties when the Houthis attacked commercial ships, disrupting important shipping routes in the Red Sea.

The Houthis said they targeted ships believed to be linked to Israel, but the DIA report said the civilian vessels attacked had little or no connection to Israel.

In December 2023, the US launched a multinational plan to protect commercial shipping, including repelling threats at sea and in the air. The US and the UK also regularly conduct direct strikes on Houthi infrastructure in Yemen.
