On the afternoon of December 21, in a phone call with South Korean Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung Ho, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai emphasized that the two sides' official upgrading of relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in December 2022 has opened a new period of more substantial, effective and comprehensive development between the two countries.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his delight that during Mr. Choo Kyung Ho's tenure as Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea, the bilateral cooperation has developed rapidly and effectively, and political trust between the two countries has been continuously strengthened. Cooperation in various fields has developed remarkably. People-to-people exchanges have been bustling with more than 200,000 expatriates from each country living, studying and working in the other country. In particular, Korea has become one of Vietnam's leading important economic partners.
The two sides are coordinating to implement the "Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership", Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai informed that relevant ministries and branches of the two countries are well implementing the results of the 2nd Vietnam-Korea Deputy Prime Minister-level Economic Dialogue.
South Korean Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung Ho said that tomorrow (December 22) is a day of special significance, the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and South Korea. On this occasion, the South Korean Deputy Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai for his practical contributions to promoting economic cooperation between the two countries.
The two Deputy Prime Ministers reviewed the results of the Vietnam-Korea Deputy Prime Minister-level Economic Dialogue in Hanoi in March 2023, reviewed the achievements, as well as the contents that need to be continued in the coming time; expressed hope to meet again soon in the third dialogue in 2024 to discuss solutions to promote economic cooperation between the two countries to achieve more practical results.
Emphasizing the need for both sides to unite to overcome difficulties, challenges and crises in the context of the complicated and unpredictable developments in the world and the region, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai asked the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea to continue to support and make valuable contributions to promoting cooperation between the two countries to develop worthy of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
In terms of politics, the two sides will continue to maintain regular delegation exchanges and contacts at high and all levels; enhance substantive cooperation in the fields of defense and security commensurate with the new framework between the two countries. In terms of economy, promote substantive cooperation between the two countries in a balanced, sustainable and mutually beneficial direction.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai also asked Deputy Prime Minister Choo Kyung Ho to encourage Korean enterprises to make new investments and expand their investment scale in Vietnam, especially in priority areas such as infrastructure development, production of high-tech electronic equipment, semiconductors, big data, biotechnology, smart cities; focusing on transferring source technology.
In addition, increase the reception of Vietnamese workers and expand labor cooperation between the two countries, especially skilled workers (information technology, health care) and new industries that Korea needs (agriculture, services, etc.); continue to further expand the scale of non-refundable aid to Vietnam, especially in the fields of research and development (R&D), innovation; transfer core technology, source technology to Vietnam; strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the fields of telecommunications, information technology, e-government, projects in the fields of digital transformation, digital economy, green economy, circular economy, etc.
Sharing the opinions of Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Choo Kyung Ho emphasized that he would direct relevant units to carefully prepare the contents so that the 3rd Dialogue between the two Deputy Prime Ministers of Vietnam and the Republic of Korea would be a great success, making a practical contribution to the relationship between the two countries; expressing his wish to soon return to visit Vietnam and meet with his counterpart.
