Cooperation and linkage of tourism in Ho Chi Minh City and localities in the Mekong Delta region

With the theme “Enhancing connectivity – Sustainable development”, the program aims to promote the role of connection between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta in connecting transportation, trade, culture and tourism. Promote tourism development of each locality; gradually build and develop regional tourism brands, and at the same time create widespread connections in many fields between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.

Delegates signed a cooperation agreement to develop tourism between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region.

In addition, the linkage program also contributes to promoting the key role of travel businesses, tourism service businesses, and tourism associations in building truly attractive, unique, and different tourism products and programs for each locality and the whole region; promoting investment promotion activities in tourism, creating opportunities for cooperation and development linkage of businesses.

Mr. Lam Hoang Nghiep, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province, said that the tourism development program between Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta, which has been implemented since 2019, has brought about many positive results. This is the first regional tourism development linkage program implemented nationwide and is also an important basis for localities to promote tourism promotion activities in recent years and the following years. Thereby, helping to promote local tourist destinations, regional tourism brands, and stimulate trade, services and tourism.

In 2024, 14 provinces and cities have paid attention to directing and issuing plans to implement local linkage programs; directing and coordinating the organization of survey activities to build regional linkage tourism products; in which, the highlight is the survey and announcement of waterway tourism products between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta region; the program to vote for attractive destinations of Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta has received the attention and support of tourists and experts, contributing to promoting local destinations and regional tourism brands.

Mr. Lam Huu Phuc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tra Vinh province, said that in 2024, through the linkage program, 14 localities attracted over 2.7 million visitors to the Mekong Delta and vice versa, there were more than 1 million visitors from the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta to Ho Chi Minh City.
