On the afternoon of September 7, receiving Mr. Muraoka Tsugumasa, Governor of Yamaguchi Prefecture (Japan) who is on a working visit to Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai emphasized that the visit is very meaningful as it takes place in September 2023, the month marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations (1973-2023). The extensive strategic partnership between the two countries is in a period of strong, comprehensive, increasingly profound and substantive development with high political trust.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that Japan is Vietnam's leading economic partner, the number 1 partner in ODA, the number 2 partner in labor, the number 3 partner in investment and tourism, and the number 4 partner in trade. In recent times, local exchange and cooperation activities have been vibrant and increasingly profound. To date, about 90 pairs of local-level Vietnam-Japan relations have been established.
Notably, the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in Japan currently has more than 430,000 people. This is the second largest foreign community and makes a practical contribution to the socio-economic development of Japan.
Since the beginning of 2023, the two sides have had many high-level delegations and all-level visits to each other, organized many activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, contributing to strengthening cooperation and deepening friendship and understanding between the people of the two countries.
Governor Muraoka Tsugumasa's delegation is the 10th Japanese local leader delegation to visit Vietnam this year, demonstrating the strong and vibrant development of local cooperation between the two countries.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, Yamaguchi province is known as the hometown of 8 Prime Ministers and many outstanding politicians of Japan; including the late Prime Minister Abe Shinzo - a great and close friend of the senior leaders and people of Vietnam.
Noting that the Vietnamese leaders and people will never forget the affection and great contributions of the late Prime Minister Abe to the development of the Vietnam-Japan friendship and cooperation relationship as it is today, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai asked the Governor to help light incense at the tomb of the late Prime Minister Abe in Yamaguchi province, expressing the condolences and affection of the Vietnamese Government leaders and people for the late Prime Minister.
The Deputy Prime Minister also highly appreciated the cooperation between Vietnam and Yamaguchi Prefecture, thanking Governor Muraoka Tsugumasa for his attention and support in promoting this cooperative relationship, especially cooperation with Binh Duong Province, as well as supporting the community of more than 4,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working conveniently in the province.
During this visit, Governor Muraoka Tsugumasa and the Yamaguchi prefectural government delegation plan to attend the “Meet Japan 2023” event hosted by Binh Duong province. Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai believes that the visit will further deepen the cooperative relationship between Yamaguchi and Binh Duong provinces in particular, and Vietnam in general, especially in the fields of trade, investment, education, culture and tourism.
Thanking the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to welcome him, Governor Muraoka Tsugumasa said that in December 2014, Binh Duong province and Yamaguchi province signed a memorandum of cooperation. Since then, the fields of cooperation in culture, education and economy between the two provinces have been implemented very well, achieving many results.
According to the Governor, the late Prime Minister Abe Shinzo was a distinguished son of Yamaguchi Prefecture, who elevated the Vietnam-Japan relationship to an extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia. Since Vietnam’s transition to a market economy, the economic relationship between the two countries has grown steadily.
In the context of the global economic downturn, Vietnam is the only country in the region to maintain positive growth. Vietnam's economic growth has made a significant contribution to the global economy.
Affirming that Yamaguchi Prefecture wishes to expand investment abroad, especially promoting the activities of small and medium enterprises in Vietnam, the Governor hopes to receive assistance from the Vietnamese Government in this matter.
Last June, Yamaguchi prefecture held a seminar with more than 100 businesses in the prefecture to introduce investment opportunities in Vietnam. In the near future, the locality will organize for businesses to visit Vietnam to seek investment opportunities.
