Less movement

The half-month Tam Ky Sea Festival 2024 has just ended. In Hoi An City, there is also a Sea Festival that will last until the end of July. However, in addition to stirring up and adding color to the sea space, the above events have not created a breakthrough in sea tourism and have not attracted many more visitors to experience because there has not been much participation from the private sector.

Not only Tam Ky and Hoi An, in recent times, in coastal localities of the province such as Dien Ban, Thang Binh, Nui Thanh, etc., there have been "sea festivals" or coastal cultural and sports festivals, but the imprint and impact of these events on stimulating and promoting tourism are very faint.

According to Mr. Van Ba Son - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in recent years the department and some localities have organized many events and exchange programs, but the festival has not really had a "festive" part and attracted a large number of people.

Mr. Le Ngoc Thuan - Director of An Bang Sea Festival and Event Organization Company proposed that the management agency needs to plan some specific areas in Quang Nam to create a breakthrough in sea tourism products.

Only then will the business community boldly join hands to develop sports, music, and art products associated with annual festivals to promote sea tourism.

According to the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Programme (SSTP), for public-private partnerships to be effective, the public and private sectors must first agree on a common and clear vision for achieving sustainable tourism development. Public-private partnerships can help businesses, government agencies and communities build capacity to meet sustainable development goals.

Waiting for "new wind"

An event with a clear mark of public-private cooperation in promoting marine tourism will take place at the end of July on Duy Xuyen beach, the International Kite Festival - Quang Nam 2024.

According to the event organizers, the idea for this festival was outlined and materialized very quickly within a few months. The parties involved expect the International Kite Festival to be maintained annually in the following years in the summer to introduce to tourists the types of beach tourism in Quang Nam and become a brand that is positioned next to the region's brand events such as the Hue Festival or the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival...

Mr. Steve Wolstenholme - Chairman and General Director of Hoiana said that this event will help further promote the work of bringing the image of Quang Nam province closer to international tourists.

This is also a testament to Hoiana's commitment and efforts to concretize strategic cooperation with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam in promoting and developing destinations.

We also hope that the International Kite Festival will soon become a distinct brand of Quang Nam and contribute significantly to promoting local sea tourism.

At a workshop on tourism development in Quang Nam, Mr. Kai Partale - tourism expert of SSTP said that tourism development can be more successful and sustainable if both the public and private sectors cooperate and meet certain conditions.

Product development collaboration is at the heart of an effective public-private partnership. When developing new products, it is important that partners in the partnership focus on the needs of the customer. From the customer’s perspective, the ultimate goal of the partnership is to provide memorable experiences for visitors.

Mr. Van Ba Son said that public-private partnership is a topic that the department is very interested in. The department is planning to cooperate with Hoiana to organize international sailing and sports competitions. Hoiana has also raised the issue and the department is calculating what the management agency will undertake and support and how the business will implement it.

“We often raise the issue that Quang Nam has up to 125km of coastline with suitable sea space to promote sea tourism but sea tourism activities have not developed. But in reality, with current sea sports activities, the legality is not clear.

Quang Nam has also made recommendations for specific policies and guidelines, and if there are clear guidelines, we believe that businesses will follow because in Quang Nam there are currently more than 20 businesses registered for water sports and entertainment activities but are still waiting," said Mr. Son.
