China is willing to work with Italy to improve bilateral security cooperation mechanisms to better safeguard the security interests of both countries.

According to Xinhua News Agency, Mr. Chen Wenqing, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), emphasized that during a meeting with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in Rome on September 23.
Chen Wenqing, who is also head of the CPC Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, stressed that in the face of the complex international situation and severe global challenges, China is willing to work with Italy to comprehensively enhance bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields and at all levels, and make new contributions to safeguarding the security interests of the two countries.
Beijing attaches great importance to its relationship with Rome, viewing it as a comprehensive strategic partnership and a positive driving force for promoting the healthy development of China-European Union (EU) relations.
Noting that 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, Mr. Tran Van Thanh expressed his hope that the two sides will cooperate to well implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries and promote the stable and long-term development of bilateral relations.
For his part, Mr. Tajani appreciated the current close communication and high-level political exchanges between the two countries.
Affirming that China is an important partner and the two sides have extensive and diverse cooperation, he said that security cooperation between the two countries can achieve more achievements.
Rome stands ready to strengthen law enforcement and security exchanges and cooperate with Beijing to safeguard the security of its people.
During his visit to Italy, Mr. Tran Van Thanh also met with Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and heads of other Italian agencies.
