On July 5, in Hanoi, the Drafting Committee of the Law on Participation in United Nations Peacekeeping Forces (UNPFA) held its first meeting chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense, and Head of the Drafting Committee.
Based on the Conclusion of the National Assembly Standing Committee at the 32nd Session (April 2024) on the proposed Law and Ordinance Development Program for 2025, and adjustments to the Law and Ordinance Development Program for 2024; including the project to develop the Law on Participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces, the Ministry of National Defense issued a decision to establish a Law Drafting Committee.

At this meeting, the Drafting Committee discussed and commented on many issues such as the regulations and working methods of the Drafting Committee; the development of a plan and roadmap for drafting the draft law; the scope of regulation, subjects of application, and the contents of the draft law's dossier, etc.
Delegates emphasized that since June 2014, Vietnam has sent 802 officers and professional soldiers to carry out UN peacekeeping missions. In addition to the achieved results, the implementation of the missions has encountered shortcomings, mainly due to the lack of mechanisms, policies, and inadequate legal corridors that have not met the actual situation.
Therefore, the development of the Law on Participation in the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces not only ensures a complete, solid, long-term, and stable legal framework for the deployment of forces to participate in United Nations peacekeeping activities, but also strengthens political consensus and social support for the Party and State's guidelines and policies, contributing to the United Nations' noble mission of world peacekeeping.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien assigned members of the Drafting Committee and Editorial Team to fully absorb the opinions at the meeting, study and adjust the contents, and complete the draft law.
