More than 3,000 athletes participate in Yen Tu mountain climbing competition 'Conquering Phu Van peak'

On the morning of April 20, at Yen Tu National Special Relic Site, the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association coordinated with the People's Committee of Uong Bi City to organize the Yen Tu Mountain Climbing Competition 2025 with the theme "Conquering Phu Van Peak".

The tournament gathered more than 3,000 professional and amateur athletes, fans, people and tourists from 30 provinces and cities across the country to participate.

From early morning, athletes gathered at the square of Truc Lam Yen Tu Cultural Center in Yen Tu relic and scenic area, Uong Bi city, Quang Ninh province.

According to the representative of the Organizing Committee, this is an important sports and tourism event to promote the image of Yen Tu relic site and encourage the sports training movement in the spirit of "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho", "Stay healthy to build a career and defend the country".

The mountain climbing route includes two distances of 5 km and 8 km, equivalent to Hoa Yen Pagoda and Dong Pagoda, then returns to the starting line to the finish line.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Vice Chairman of Uong Bi City People's Committee, said that Yen Tu Mountain Climbing Tournament is not only a sports playground but also a journey to conquer oneself, spread the spirit of solidarity, the will to overcome difficulties and promote the image of Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son, Kiep Bac closer to the goal of becoming a World Cultural Heritage.

The special feature of the mountain climbing tournament is that the route is designed to pass through ancient forests, steep hills, ancient pine trees over 700 years old and many important spiritual relics associated with Truc Lam Zen sect.

Along with that are famous landmarks located in Yen Tu mountain range such as To Tower, Hoa Yen Pagoda, Tran Nhan Tong Buddha Square, An Ky Sinh peak and the final point is Dong Pagoda located at an altitude of 1068 meters above sea level.

The athletes participating not only exercise but also immerse themselves in the magical, sacred space of Yen Tu sacred mountain.

The route through the forests is beautiful but also a great challenge, the long stone steps test the endurance and require the athletes to distribute their energy in a balanced way to achieve the best results.

For many athletes, this is an opportunity to return to the Buddhist holy land of Truc Lam Yen Tu to compete, worship and pay respect to Buddha along the way.

Many families register their children for the climbing competition.

At the end of the race, the Organizing Committee awarded prizes to the top 3 and top 10 positions in the 5km and 8km distances for men and women. Representatives of the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalists Association also awarded prizes to journalists from the association who participated in the race.

With a large scale and elaborate preparation, the Yen Tu Mountain Climbing Tournament 2025 left deep impressions, contributing to enriching cultural - spiritual - sports tourism products in Quang Ninh, arousing pride in the homeland, the spirit of training and looking back to the national roots.
