Male patient DVB (28 years old, residing in Hau Giang province) was diagnosed with end-stage chronic kidney failure in 2021, with a quite serious condition.
The patient also had anemia and malnutrition, which affected postoperative recovery. After 2 months of intensive medical treatment, the patient's health improved significantly.
Doctors decided to perform a kidney transplant on Mr. B. The kidney donor was the patient's biological father.
The surgery was performed by Associate Professor, Dr. Thai Minh Sam (former Head of the Department of Urology - Cho Ray Hospital, Vice President of the Vietnam Urology - Nephrology Association) and more than 20 doctors from the two hospitals in coordination for about 6 hours.
The surgeon removed the donor's left kidney laparoscopically and transplanted it into the recipient's right iliac fossa. During the surgery and recovery, the patient was given 8 units of blood and blood products.
After the transplant, the patient's paraclinical, cardiovascular, and respiratory indicators improved significantly, and his physical condition recovered well.
The second case is a female patient PTKT (38 years old, living in Kien Giang province), who was diagnosed with end-stage chronic kidney failure in March.
The patient was consulted by doctors and decided to undergo kidney transplant surgery from his biological sister. The transplanted kidney was taken from his sister's left side and transplanted into the patient's right iliac fossa, with the surgery lasting more than 5 hours.

These are the second and third kidney transplant cases performed at Can Tho Central General Hospital with professional support from Cho Ray Hospital.
Previously, on May 9, Can Tho Central General Hospital announced information about the first kidney transplant performed at the hospital. This is also the first successful kidney transplant performed in the Mekong Delta region.
According to the hospital, following the success of the three recent kidney transplants, the hospital is carrying out procedures according to regulations to perform the next two transplants, scheduled for September 12-13.
