More than 20 activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army

On the morning of November 15, the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Information and Communications jointly held a press conference to introduce activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).

According to Colonel Nguyen Xuan Thuy, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department, General Department of Politics, in November and December 2024, there will be 22 key activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day in the following areas: Propaganda, education, emulation, rewards; culture, literature, arts, sports; exhibitions, fairs; seminars, talks, meetings, exchanges and policy activities, mass mobilization, gratitude. Notable activities include: Contest to learn about the tradition of "80 years of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and 35 years of the National Defense Day"; the peak emulation period "Proud of tradition - Continuing the feat - worthy of Uncle Ho's soldiers"; the political and artistic program "The historical path" at the Vietnam Military History Museum; Exhibition of 80 years of culture, literature and art of the Vietnam People's Army at Hoan Kiem Lake walking street; National scientific conference to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day; Military music exchange of ASEAN countries... In particular, the ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day will be solemnly held on the morning of December 20, 2024 at the National Convention Center (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi). The ceremony is expected to be attended by leaders of the Party and State.

According to the Ministry of National Defense, military units from the regimental level and above have deployed 1,832 projects to celebrate the anniversary, worth more than VND262.6 billion; 1,424 projects have been completed, and 408 projects are in progress. Agencies, units, and localities have coordinated to deploy financial support to renovate and embellish places of worship (at home) for 32/34 soldiers of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army, with a total amount of VND2.56 billion. The entire army deployed financial support, built gratitude houses, "Great Solidarity Houses", "Comrade Houses", and demolished temporary houses, dilapidated houses, etc. for local people, with the figure as of October 26 being 23,078 houses of all kinds. The Ministry of National Defense has also directed support for the construction of Dien Bien Primary and Secondary School in Thanh Xuong commune, Dien Bien district, Dien Bien province with an amount of VND120 billion; Supported 10 projects for military units participating in sustainable poverty reduction, new rural construction, and construction of civil works from the Fund for the Poor with an amount of 23.8 billion VND; supported the 15th Army Corps to build and donate 4 cultural communal houses to the locality with an amount of 12.084 billion VND. Military Region 1 supported the construction of new rural areas in Tam Kim and Hoa Tham communes, Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province with a total investment of 70.6 billion VND.
