On the afternoon of November 29, the Department of Party and Political Work (Ministry of Public Security) held a press conference to inform about the 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship.

The Asian Police Taekwondo Open is one of a series of opening activities hosted by the Ministry of Public Security to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Public Security Traditional Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025).

With the slogan “The power of the police! Taekwondo police - protectors of global citizens”, the tournament was held from December 6 to 9 at the Quang Ninh Provincial Multi-purpose Gymnasium (Ha Long City, Quang Ninh).

By organizing the tournament, the Ministry of Public Security wishes to honor the solidarity of Taekwondo police around the world; strengthen and enhance the position of police Taekwondo in Vietnam and of the World Police Taekwondo Federation in the effort for the health, safety and happiness of people around the world.

The tournament also aims to promote patriotism and national spirit; consolidate the position and image of the Vietnam Police force; develop high-performance sports in the Vietnam People's Public Security.

According to the Department of Party and Political Affairs, the Bac Ha dog was chosen as the mascot of the 2024 tournament because this breed symbolizes loyalty, strength, and is associated with Taekwondo; at the same time, it represents attachment and discipline...

To date, the Organizing Committee has recorded more than 2,000 people including officials, coaches, and athletes from 21 countries and territories in Asia and outside Asia participating in the tournament. The Vietnam People's Public Security delegation alone has 70 athletes competing.

Athletes will compete in 16 weight categories, 5 boxing events, 5 breaking events, self-defense skills, attack and martial arts performance.

To prepare for the tournament, the Vietnam People's Police Sports Association coordinated with the World Police Taekwondo Federation to organize an international Taekwondo referee training course from October 14 to 17 for 79 domestic and international referees at the University of Physical Education and Sports Gymnasium.

The tournament opening ceremony will take place at 8:00 p.m. on December 6, promising to bring a vibrant, colorful atmosphere, opening the way for exciting competition days for athletes.

In addition, within the framework of the event, there will also be a welcome music night program held at 8:00 p.m. on December 7, at October 30 Square (Ha Long City) with performances including: People's Police Cavalry, music and dance, ceremonial trumpet team...

The 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship is not only a top-notch playground for sports expertise but also an opportunity to promote the culture, image, country, and people of Vietnam as sincere, friendly, and hospitable; cultural heritages, historical relics, and tourism products of Vietnam in general and Quang Ninh in particular to international friends.

The Ministry of Public Security will host the 2024 Asian Police Taekwondo Open Championship from December 6 to 9 at the Quang Ninh Province Multi-purpose Gymnasium.
