The Red Border is a blood donation program to save lives jointly implemented by the Central Red Journey Organizing Committee and the Lao Cai Provincial Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee. 2023 is the 5th year of the program. According to the report, after 5 blood donation festivals, the whole province has mobilized and received more than 35,000 units of blood, reaching and exceeding the assigned plan targets every year.
The amount of blood received was provided to central and local hospitals for emergency care and patient treatment. In 2022, Lao Cai province received 7,919 units of blood (132% of the 2022 plan); in the first 6 months of 2023, Lao Cai province mobilized and received 3,522 units of blood.
Up to now, the volunteer blood donation force of Lao Cai has been growing. The area maintains 100% of reserve blood donation clubs/teams, developing in communes, wards, towns, agencies, schools, and enterprises. This is a "living blood bank" with more than 3,500 volunteers registered to donate blood and tested to determine blood type, ready to participate in emergency blood donation.
The voluntary blood donation movement has increasingly received attention from Party committees, authorities and the majority of people in Lao Cai province. The work of commendation, honor and reward has also been paid more attention regularly. Every year, hundreds of collectives, individuals and families who have donated blood are honored, commended and rewarded in many forms.
On June 22, 2023, the 5th blood donation festival "Red Border Color" in Lao Cai province was held, attracting a large number of cadres, civil servants, public employees, workers, youth union members, armed forces, and local people to register to participate.
With the message “Every drop of blood given – A life saved”, this blood donation festival attracted more than 1,000 registrants. Volunteers were screened and examined by doctors and nurses according to the correct procedures before donating blood.
At the end of the festival, the Organizing Committee received 1,150 units of blood (150 units more than the planned target). This blood will be transferred to serve emergency and treatment for patients at hospitals.
