More than 100 people were injured in a stampede at a stadium.

The scene after the stampede at Madagascar's national stadium.

Due to the large number of people arriving and the stadium staff being unable to control the situation, a terrible stampede occurred right at the entrance of Barea Stadium.

On local television, MP Hanitra Razafimanantsoa said a total of 13 people were killed and 107 injured in the stampede.

A representative of the Red Cross at the scene added that up to 7 minors died in this disaster.

This number may increase as many victims are in critical condition.

The cause of the incident is currently unknown, but according to Red Cross media representative Antsa Mirado, the stampede was caused by too many people crowding at the stadium entrance.

Speaking at the opening of the congress, Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina expressed condolences to the families of the victims and declared a minute of silence for the unfortunate victims of the stampede.

Notably, most recently, at this location in 2019, a similar stampede occurred, killing at least 15 people.
