Today, the National Assembly held an extraordinary session to consider personnel work.

Secretary General of the National Assembly and Head of the National Assembly Office Bui Van Cuong said that, based on the provisions of the Constitution and laws, the National Assembly Standing Committee decided to convene the 8th extraordinary session of the 15th National Assembly to consider personnel matters under the authority of the National Assembly.

The session takes place in 1 day, starting at 8:00 a.m. on August 26, 2024 at the National Assembly House, Hanoi Capital.

15th National Assembly

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man presided over the opening session on the morning of August 26. The National Assembly observed a minute of silence to commemorate the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a delegate of the 15th National Assembly. Then, National Assembly Secretary General Bui Van Cuong announced the reason and agenda of the session. Attending the opening session were General Secretary and President To Lam; Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Standing member of the Secretariat Luong Cuong; and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien.

On August 16, the 13th Party Central Committee held a meeting to review and give opinions on personnel work. The 13th Party Central Committee decided to introduce personnel and give opinions for the Politburo to introduce personnel to complete the leadership of a number of state agencies for the 2021-2026 term according to regulations.

Regarding personnel work, on August 21, the Politburo announced the decision to transfer and appoint Mr. Tran Luu Quang, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister, to hold the position of Head of the Central Economic Commission.

Previously, on August 3, the 13th Party Central Committee held a meeting on personnel work under its authority and agreed to let Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai cease to hold the position of Party Central Committee Secretary, member of the 13th Party Central Committee, and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh cease to hold the position of member of the 13th Party Central Committee.

On the afternoon of August 13, the National Assembly Standing Committee met, voted by secret ballot to approve and issue a resolution on the dismissal of Mr. Dang Quoc Khanh, a member of the National Assembly Delegation of Ha Giang province, from his duties as a deputy of the 15th National Assembly.

According to regulations, the National Assembly has the authority to elect and approve proposals for appointment to positions in the State apparatus, as well as approve proposals for dismissal of positions held by the National Assembly.

The National Assembly session regulations also clearly stipulate the procedure for considering and deciding on personnel work, from submitting the list, approving the list, discussing, conducting secret ballots to voting to pass resolutions on election, approval of appointment or approval of dismissal.
