Attending the workshop were leaders of the General Department of Tourism, Department of Tourism, representatives of UNWTO-RSOAP, Provincial Tourism Association and tourism service businesses in the province.

In recent years, sustainable tourism has become a new trend in the global tourism landscape. This trend helps to minimize costs, promote economic growth, maximize the benefits of tourism without causing negative impacts on the natural environment and local communities, gradually reducing the dependence of the tourism industry on available resources.

However, not all countries and localities have implemented the right approach and have clear goals and strategies to achieve "sustainable tourism". Many destinations are facing difficulties in managing and developing sustainable tourism. The rapid growth has caused many destinations to face the risk of destroying landscape elements, ecological environment, historical culture and sustainable livelihoods of the people.

Over the years, Ninh Binh province has always paid attention to the goal of turning tourism into a spearhead economic sector, identifying sustainable tourism development as a consistent viewpoint, ensuring harmony between tourism development and environmental protection, creating livelihoods for people and preserving cultural and historical values.

Ninh Binh focuses on exploiting tourism products with "high cultural content", improving service quality, focusing on building and developing tourism destination brands with unique products, safe, friendly and attractive tourism environment.

At the workshop, delegates learned about the potential and sustainable tourism development in Ninh Binh. Especially the "Handbook on sustainable tourism management through tourism" (introduced by the World Tourism Organization) and the practice on "Sustainable destination management through tourism" in Vietnam are valuable experiences for Ninh Binh to refer to and apply in practice.
