On July 17, the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations in collaboration with the Provincial Center for Research on Preservation and Promotion of Ethnic Culture organized a consultation, criticism and social appraisal workshop on "Solutions to preserve and develop traditional cake-making villages in Phu Tho province, contributing to the development of tourism to the roots of the Vietnamese people".
Overview of the workshop
Attending the workshop were experts and scientists in the province; representatives of leaders of some departments and branches of the province; representatives of districts, cities, towns and production facilities in craft villages...
The province currently has 71 stable craft villages recognized by the Provincial People's Committee, including 4 traditional cake making craft villages: Thach De noodle and cake processing craft village, Hung Viet commune, Cam Khe district; Chua hamlet noodle and service craft village, Phu Nham commune, Phu Ninh district; Ha Thach cake, noodle and service craft village, Phu Tho town and Xom village of banh chung and banh giay, Hung Lo commune, Viet Tri city.
The cake-making villages operate on a family scale, mainly consumed in districts, cities and towns in the province. In 2023, the revenue of the cake-making villages will reach 5.5-7.7 billion VND/year; creating jobs for 681 workers, an average of about 170 workers/craft village.
Delegates visited Chung cake and Giay cake products of Xom village, Hung Lo commune, Viet Tri city.
At the workshop, delegates, experts, scientists, and production facilities focused on analyzing and discussing the current situation, forms of organization and operation; management capacity; infrastructure, production equipment; clarifying the difficulties, challenges as well as opportunities and development potential of traditional cake making villages.
From there, propose solutions to preserve and develop traditional cake-making villages in the province, contributing to the development of tourism to the roots of the Vietnamese people such as: There should be policies to support the development of craft villages in general and traditional cake-making villages in particular; conduct comprehensive investigations, surveys, and assessments of the current situation and aspirations of people in cake-making villages in the province; guide and create favorable conditions for cake artisans in traditional craft villages to continue to maintain and preserve cakes bearing the mark of the ancestral land.
Promote trade promotion, build product brands for traditional baking villages; organize food fairs to introduce products during festivals; apply scientific and technological advances to reduce labor, create high-quality products, beautiful designs, ensure food safety and hygiene, adapt to market mechanisms; build typical baking villages, create sightseeing and experience spots, serve tourists, contribute to preserving and promoting national cultural values and identities in the process of industrialization and modernization of agriculture.
