This workshop focused on clarifying many issues related to the impact and influence of environmental pollution and climate change on all aspects of social life and military agencies and units; at the same time, affirming the position and role of the Army as the core force in the task of environmental protection, proactively responding to and adapting to climate change and overcoming environmental incidents. Based on the assessment of the current situation, clarifying the causes, drawing experiences and proposing solutions in performing the tasks, the delegates participating in the workshop proposed and recommended to the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense, and the General Department of Politics to propose policies, solutions, mechanisms and policies to improve the effectiveness of the task of environmental protection, proactively responding to climate change and overcoming environmental incidents in the coming time.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army emphasized: "This scientific workshop aims to continue to deeply affirm the function of the Army's working army, spread the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers on the environmental protection front, proactively respond to climate change and overcome environmental incidents, contribute significantly with the entire Party and people in environmental protection, towards developing a green economy with sustainable development, people friendly to the environment".
Presenting the opening report of the workshop, Major General Ngo Van Giao, Director of the Department of Military Science, Ministry of National Defense, said: “At this workshop, the Organizing Committee received more than 60 papers and scientific reports from leaders, commanders, generals and scientists inside and outside the Army. The papers with new documents, new perceptions with many different approaches will contribute to clarifying and deepening the relationship between environmental protection, proactive response and adaptation to climate change associated with the implementation of military defense and security tasks; at the same time, affirming the position, role, responsibility and solutions to limit and overcome environmental pollution, proactive response and adaptation to climate change of the Army today”.
Speaking at the workshop, Lieutenant General Tran Vo Dung, Political Commissar of Military Region 4, said: “The workshop contributes to clarifying many new issues on the impacts and influences of environmental pollution and climate change on all aspects of social life and in the Army in general, and the Military Region 4 Armed Forces in particular. The Military Region Command respectfully hopes that delegates and scientists will have presentations to further clarify the impacts of climate change on the Military Region 4 area as well as solutions to respond to the damage caused by climate change. On that basis, it will help the Military Region Armed Forces have appropriate policies and solutions in environmental protection, natural resource protection and proactive response to climate change, minimizing negative impacts on the lives and health of soldiers, contributing to the successful completion of military and defense tasks of the Military Region Armed Forces”.
At the workshop, delegates discussed and clarified many important issues and contents closely following the theme "The Army with the responsibility of protecting the environment, proactively responding to climate change and overcoming environmental incidents"; highlighting the position, role and task of environmental protection; the impacts and influences of the environment and climate change on military and defense activities; thereby, proposing solutions to reduce environmental pollution, proactively respond and adapt to climate change in the army...
Speaking at the conclusion of the workshop, Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet emphasized: With the important role of the workshop, the organizing committee received nearly 70 presentations from agencies, units, generals, officers, scientists inside and outside the military. The presentations have high scientific content, contributing to clarifying many issues that are both urgent and have strategic, fundamental, and long-term significance for the country and the military.
The Vietnam People's Army has always been the core force, taking the lead in environmental protection, proactively adapting to climate change, overcoming environmental incidents and considering this a peacetime combat mission. To effectively carry out this task, there needs to be close coordination between the army and ministries, departments, branches, Party committees and local authorities in propaganda, education and mobilizing people to raise their sense of responsibility and environmental protection, and respond to climate change...
After the workshop, agencies and units need to continue to thoroughly grasp the tasks of environmental protection and climate change response, apply the workshop results to practical tasks, promote propaganda, raise awareness and responsibility of officers and soldiers; replicate good practices to minimize negative impacts, contribute to environmental protection and improve the quality of military and defense activities in the coming time...
