In her opening speech, Ms. Ho Thi Quyen, Deputy Director of ITPC emphasized: “In the context of increasingly deep international integration, promoting market connectivity and diversifying partners is a strategic task that contributes to enhancing the country's position in the international arena. Chile is an attractive investment destination thanks to its transparent business environment, stable policies and is an important gateway for Vietnamese enterprises to access the large South American market.”
In his welcoming speech, Mr. Pablo Arancibia Salazar, Trade Representative of ProChile, highly appreciated Vietnam's proactive role in the strategy of enhancing regional cooperation. Vietnam is not only a trade partner, but also a strategic ally in the journey of sustainable economic development and innovation in the Pacific region. He said that Chile is ready to support Vietnamese enterprises through investment promotion mechanisms, especially in the fields of fisheries, renewable energy, mining and wood processing.
The workshop focused on providing practical information on the potential of the South American market, especially Chile - a country with a dynamic economy, open trade policy and an important partner of Vietnam in the region. Thematic content presented by representatives of ProChile and the Southern Trade Promotion Agency Office, Ministry of Industry and Trade highlighted opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the fields of import and export, investment in energy, mining, high technology and smart agriculture.
In 2024, turnover Two-way trade between Vietnam and Chile reached nearly 1.8 billion USD. Vietnam is currently the 12th largest supplier of goods to Chile, with Ho Chi Minh City making a significant contribution. However, it is predicted that the opportunities for cooperation are still very large, requiring the drastic participation of the business community in improving competitiveness and effectively utilizing free trade agreements such as the Vietnam - Chile Free Trade Agreement (VCFTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
At the workshop, Ms. Bui Hoang Yen, Head of the Southern Trade Promotion Agency Office, Ministry of Industry and Trade, shared: “VCFTA and CPTPP are important foundations to help export turnover to Chile grow strongly. However, the rate of taking advantage of incentives from these agreements is still low, especially CPTPP, only reaching 6.3%, which shows that businesses need more support in accessing information and improving management capacity”.
The workshop is a practical activity contributing to concretizing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of international relations of our Party and State; at the same time, it is an important step in the process of bringing Vietnamese enterprises to the large and potential Latin American market.
