On October 6, at Bach Hoan village, Lang Phong commune (Nho Quan), the Department of Science and Technology coordinated with Chung Hieu Investment and Construction Company Limited to organize a field workshop to demonstrate the results of the project "Application of scientific and technical advances in commercial farming of grass carp to create crispy fish products using broad bean feed".
Attending the workshop were representatives of the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the district, organizations and unions of Lang Phong commune, members of the aquaculture production team and farmers participating in the project.
After nearly 2 years, the project has implemented the technology process of commercial farming of grass carp to create crispy fish products using broad bean feed.
Along with that, build a pilot model of commercial farming of grass carp to create crispy fish products using broad beans and a control model of farming fish using industrial feed on a scale of 2 ponds, each pond has an area of 8,000 m2.
The project management board assessed that thanks to the use of proactive disease prevention measures, proper implementation of technical steps from feeding, periodic water changes, and use of biological products, the fish were healthy and disease-free, and environmental indicators were within the threshold for fish to develop and grow well according to project requirements.
As a result, the 2022 fish harvest had a crispness index of 110.5 N (exceeding the set target). Through direct inspection, the fish meat was very crispy and had a delicious taste, with bright meat color.
From the experience of the previous crop, in 2023, up to now, both the experimental and control ponds, the fish have grown well, no disease outbreaks. It is expected that when the harvest season comes (from the end of October to November), the experimental pond using broad bean feed will have a fish size of 3.6 kg/fish or more, the survival rate will be 92%, the yield will be over 32 tons/ha/crop, the output will be over 26 tons, the overall result will meet the set target.
Comparing the profits between the two models, the new farming method using broad beans gives much higher economic efficiency than the traditional farming model using industrial feed.
At the workshop, aquaculture engineers taught households about feeding techniques, regular water changes, the use of biological products, checking environmental indicators to ensure that they are within the threshold for fish to develop and grow well; and how to identify, prevent and treat some common diseases in farmed fish.
It is expected that in November 2023, the Management Board will continue to evaluate the economic efficiency of the two models, thereby comparing the results achieved, writing reports and adjusting the technology, perfecting the farming process to suit local conditions, and organizing acceptance at the grassroots and provincial levels.
