On the morning of November 17, at the hall of Dong Thon Cooperative, Yen Thai Commune (Yen Mo), the Project Management Board (Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants) coordinated with the Department of Science and Technology and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Yen Mo district to organize a conference and workshop to conclude the construction of a model for producing L29 peanut variety for the 2023 autumn-winter crop.
Attending the workshop were representatives of the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the district, organizations and unions of Yen Thai commune, Yen Lam commune and farmers participating in the project.
From January 2023 to July 2025, the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants will coordinate with departments, branches and localities to conduct research and trial production of new peanut varieties and intensive cultivation of peanut varieties with potential for productivity and good resistance to pests and diseases to increase income per unit area of cultivated land in Ninh Binh province.
Accordingly, the Project Management Board has carried out steps, surveyed and selected implementation locations and provided training courses on seed production techniques and intensive cultivation of L29 peanut varieties for households participating in model building.
The project successfully built a 10-hectare peanut seed production model, ensuring seed quality in Yen Lam and Yen Thai communes with a scale of 5 hectares/commune. Of which, Yen Thai commune has 50 households and Yen Lam commune has 38 households participating in the model.
Along with that, organize field conferences and workshops to introduce and evaluate the L29 peanut production model in the winter crop and intensive cultivation in the spring crop, in order to replicate the model in the area.
Initial results show that peanuts are suitable for the land, grow and develop well, have few pests and diseases, and the expected yield is estimated at 108 kg/sao, equivalent to 3 tons/ha, much higher than previously grown peanut varieties. Up to now, peanut variety L29 is about to be harvested.
Along with implementation in Yen Mo district, the project also simultaneously researches and perfects the technical process of intensive cultivation of new varieties suitable for ecological conditions in Yen Khanh district. Positive results will gradually replace the peanut varieties currently grown locally with low productivity and poor resistance.
In parallel with the application of demonstration models of L29 peanut variety to serve the expansion of production in Ninh Binh province, the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants also coordinates with companies to purchase commercial peanuts for processing and fresh consumption.
This coordination will create a connection between 4 parties (producers, scientists, managers and businesses) in agricultural production along the value chain from production to product consumption.
