Yagi, the second strongest super typhoon in the world since the beginning of 2024 and the strongest typhoon to enter the East Sea in the past 30 years, has swept through the capital tourist city of Quang Ninh. As soon as the storm dissipated, Ha Long City "rolled up its sleeves" to clean up, quickly regaining its growth rate and tourism image.

Efforts to restore heritage
As soon as the storm dissipated, on September 9, Ha Long City launched a campaign to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 3, deployed during the 7 peak days (September 9-15), the entire city mobilized all forces to organize the collection and treatment of all fallen trees on main roads, clean up the environment, and help schools and hospitals.
The most important task of the city at this time is to overcome the consequences of storm Yagi so that people's lives and business activities can return to normal, so that Ha Long can regain its image as a heritage city and a tourist city as soon as possible.
Wards, communes, and units in the city have mobilized human resources and machinery to support the cleanup day and night, together with people and forces.
Thanks to the total mobilization, by September 13, 20 wards and communes of the city had finished clearing up fallen trees and billboards. The remaining 13 communes and wards are actively collecting and cleaning up on main roads and residential areas.

Next is the campaign “3 days to clean Ha Long Bay” taking place from September 15-17. Each day there will be 35-50 vehicles, about 150-200 officers, employees, and soldiers from the Ha Long Bay Management Board, the Provincial Military Command, the Provincial Border Guard Command, and the Quang Ninh Park Tree Joint Stock Company.
Units collect garbage in the core area of Ha Long Bay heritage, focusing on tourist attractions on the bay, then all garbage on the sea surface, at the foot of the islands and beaches.
Mr. Vu Kien Cuong, Head of Ha Long Bay Management Board, informed that on September 8-9, the unit urgently focused on forces to overcome the damage and check the conditions and facilities.
From September 10, some tourist attractions in Ha Long Bay are eligible to welcome and serve visitors, including route 1 (Thien Cung cave, Dau Go cave), route 2 (Ti Top island, Sung Sot cave, Luon cave, Trinh Nu cave).

Tourism quickly "revives"
On the first day of welcoming visitors back after the super typhoon (September 13), Ha Long Bay welcomed nearly 4,000 visitors, mainly international visitors from countries such as China, South Korea, etc. Visitors traveled from Hanoi to Ha Long early in the morning, according to a pre-arranged schedule.
Specifically, at Tuan Chau International Passenger Port, there were 84 departures, with 2,310 tourists, of which 615 stayed in Ha Long Bay. At Ha Long International Passenger Port, on September 10, nearly 1,560 tourists boarded ships to visit Ha Long Bay and returned to shore during the day.
Some tourism operators in Ha Long Bay said they welcomed guests back on September 10, such as Grand Pioneers Cruises, Athena Cruise and Signature Cruise, and Ambassador Cruises.
In particular, the high-end accommodation system in Bai Chay ward, with 4 and 5-star hotels, has basically not been interrupted by the storm. Many hotels have become safe havens for tourists, receiving visitors from neighboring hotels.
The damage was quickly repaired, and many hotels were able to contribute to the city's post-storm recovery efforts, such as Oakwood Hotel (part of Sun Group) providing laundry services at the same price as the general public; committing to providing all types of bread at cost price, without profit, to help people stock up on food and overcome difficult times.
Or Wyndham Legend Ha Long Hotel has a program to accompany people to overcome difficulties with a preferential room package of only 1.4 million VND/room/night for 2 adults and 2 children. The room includes breakfast for the whole family with electricity, water, wifi...
Returning to Ha Long for the second time, Ms. Elizabeth Dickerson (American tourist) shared: "Our group of 31 people traveled from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue. On the way, we heard about the storm that devastated your city.
We are very sad to see your trees, houses, and homeland destroyed; every person here is trying very hard to restore this place."
She was impressed that hotels in Ha Long still ensure good accommodation conditions for guests. "If I have the chance, I will come back to see your city develop more and become greener," the American tourist said.
Ha Long City as well as other localities in the province have gone through storms and floods, resiliently overcoming difficulties, gradually recovering and returning to normal operations after the storm.
With the spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement, we believe that Ha Long tourism will certainly soon regain growth momentum, returning with a brighter and more innovative appearance than before.
