Youth Union members learn about the National Historical Site of the Memorial Site for the Youth Volunteers of Company 915, in Gia Sang Ward, through digital technology of the relic.

The fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on April 15, 2019 is an example. At that time, the whole world was shocked to see the cultural symbol of France engulfed in flames. It was thought that the restoration would be difficult, but a miracle happened thanks to 3D digital technology. Not to mention, before that, a conservation company had made 150 laser scans of the cathedral's skeleton, helping to preserve every architectural detail with millimeter accuracy. In addition, a video game that aims to realistically recreate the building digitized the entire architectural details, inadvertently contributing to the restoration process.

The Dunhuang Academy (China) has also used technology to create a virtual “ambassador” of the Mogao Caves in Gansu Province. Named Jia Yao, the virtual “ambassador” is inspired by the Buddhist goddess of water, with hair accessories and traditional Chinese costumes that can help introduce and promote the history of religious life, art, economy, politics and society of this land. In addition to vividly introducing stories related to the land associated with Buddhist history, Jia Yao can perform dances that originated thousands of years ago.

Stories about the application of technology in the conservation and preservation of relics and heritages around the world have shown that digitization is not only a tool for storing data but also an effective means of protecting and restoring heritage. If historical relics are digitized in detail, we will have the opportunity to accurately restore them instead of facing the risk of permanent loss. Therefore, digitization is not simply about taking photos of relics but needs to go further, which is to build detailed 3D models, preserve architectural information, materials, cultural characteristics of each relic, heritage...
