Women's Association in remote areas of Cat Tien helps dozens of members escape poverty

TPO - Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lai, President of the Women's Union of Cat Tien district, Lam Dong, said that since the beginning of this year, grassroots organizations have reviewed and classified poor and near-poor members.

Providing livelihoods to poor women in Cat Tien district

Through screening, Cat Tien (Lam Dong) has 94 poor members/374 poor households in the district and 93 near-poor members/416 near-poor households in the district.

The associations at all levels have coordinated to propagate and mobilize 100 members to participate in vocational training classes and transfer of science and technology organized by sectors and localities, including sewing classes, brocade weaving, vegetable growing, training on nematode disease prevention on mulberry trees, etc.

Cat Tien Women's Union also coordinated to mobilize member families to participate in the Dairy Cow Development Project in 2023. To date, 13 households have received 87 cows.

In Gia Vien commune, the Women's Union coordinated to give livelihoods to 7 poor and near-poor women's families, each with 7 million VND. The Women's Union of Tien Hoang commune also gave 5 livelihoods to 5 disadvantaged women's families, each with 100 chickens, bran and medicine.

To date, the Women's Union has coordinated with the District Policy Bank to provide loans to 2,220 member families for economic development with a total outstanding loan balance of nearly VND 134 billion. During the "Savings Deposit Week for the Poor" in 2023, the Women's Union mobilized VND 1.88 billion/42 savings books.

The Women's Union signed an agreement with the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Cat Tien District Branch, on implementing credit policies to serve agricultural and rural development; thereby, establishing 21 loan groups to facilitate borrowing from the mutual savings fund of the branch, helping with working days, sharing experiences... At the same time, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Cat Tien District Branch, Lam Dong II supported 50 million VND to build a charity house; at the same time, coordinated to mobilize and connect 121 gifts with a total amount of more than 57 million VND to support women members and orphans in difficult circumstances.

According to Ms. Lai, it is estimated that by 2023, 39/42 members will escape poverty and 36/40 members will escape near-poverty.
