Implementing the 2024 work program, the Ministry of Industry and Trade organized a series of 06 Conferences on Trade Promotion and Import-Export Development in economic regions across the country, to exchange and discuss regional linkage solutions in trade promotion and import-export development.
Accordingly, the Conference on Trade Promotion and Import-Export Development in the Red River Delta will be held on June 5, 2024 in Hanoi in a combination of face-to-face and online formats. This is the third conference in the series, organized after the success of the Conferences on Trade Promotion and Import-Export Development in the Northern Midlands and Mountains and the Central Highlands.
The conference is expected to attract about 200 delegates, including leaders of People's Committees of provinces and cities in the Red River Delta, leaders of relevant units under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, industry associations, representatives of business support agencies and organizations, manufacturing, import-export, trade, logistics service enterprises, etc.
The conference will focus on discussing many important issues in cooperation in developing trade promotion and import-export activities in the Red River Delta such as: Linking the development of export value chains for manufactured industrial products, supporting industries, high-quality agricultural products (such as rice, vegetables, fruits, etc.); Linking the development of logistics services for export, effectively exploiting marine economic products for export; Linking the development of energy fields, infrastructure of industrial parks and clusters to serve the production of export goods; Cooperating and linking to implement regional-scale trade promotion programs, etc.
On the sidelines of the Conference, there will be a space for displaying and promoting products of localities and businesses in the region, creating opportunities for trade connections between suppliers of goods and services in the Red River Delta with import-export businesses and trade promotion organizations. Businesses in the Red River Delta with high-quality products, export potential and capacity will be facilitated by the Conference Organizing Committee to participate in this activity.
The Red River Delta includes 11 provinces and cities: Hanoi, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh. The North, Northeast, West and Southwest border the Northern midlands and mountainous areas; the South borders the North Central and Central coastal regions; the East borders the Gulf of Tonkin. This is a region with a dynamically developing economy and a large market space. In recent years, some localities in the region have had breakthrough developments, becoming bright spots in the region and the whole country (such as Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Hung Yen...). The commercial infrastructure has developed quite well with the rapid increase of modern commercial forms such as e-commerce, supermarkets, commercial centers, and services, contributing to changing the face of the commercial sector of the region and the whole country. The industrial and agricultural sectors with development advantages in the Red River Delta include metallurgy, mechanics, chemicals, construction materials, food processing, consumer goods production, thermal power, oil and gas exploitation, limestone exploitation, kaolin exploitation, food production, livestock and poultry farming...The Red River Delta includes 11 provinces and cities.
Import-export activities of the Red River Delta region in recent years have always accounted for a significant proportion in the overall import-export structure of the whole country. In 2023, the import-export turnover of the whole region reached over 260.88 billion USD, the highest among the 6 economic regions, accounting for 38% of the country's import-export turnover, down nearly 12.25 billion USD compared to 2022 due to the general impact of the difficult global foreign trade context. Of which, the region's export turnover in 2023 reached over 126.94 billion USD, down over 2.98 billion USD compared to 2022; import turnover reached nearly 133.94 billion USD, down nearly 9.26 billion USD compared to 2022. Bac Ninh is the leading locality in the region in terms of import-export turnover, followed by Hanoi, Hai Phong, Vinh Phuc, Hai Duong, Ha Nam, Quang Ninh, Hung Yen, etc.
Trade promotion is identified as the link between localities in the Red River Delta in promoting the consumption of goods. In recent times, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has coordinated with localities in the region to implement many trade promotion activities with long-term and effective regional linkages. In the past 2 years, provinces and cities in the Red River Delta have successfully organized many regional trade fairs and exhibitions, attracting the participation of thousands of businesses. However, this work needs to be further improved to support businesses to grasp diverse domestic and foreign market opportunities for products of the Red River Delta.
According to Decision No. 368/QD-TTg dated May 4, 2024 of the Prime Minister approving the planning of the Red River Delta region for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the Red River Delta region is positioned as a particularly important strategic area, a leading development driver, playing a leading role in the process of restructuring the economy and transforming the country's growth model to create a breakthrough in rapid and sustainable development.
To contribute to promoting the potential and advantages of the Red River Delta as well as each locality, and to make the Red River Delta develop more and more strongly, linkage and cooperation activities between localities in trade promotion and import and export need to be promoted and separate official mechanisms in regional linkage need to be established.
The conference is expected to be a channel for sharing and exchanging valuable information, discussing to deploy support solutions, linking more closely and effectively inside and outside the Red River Delta in trade promotion and import-export development; for the purpose of supporting businesses in the region to grow stronger, helping the region's products and services reach further to domestic and foreign markets.
