On the afternoon of July 2, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, chaired a press conference to inform about the organization of the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese around the world; Forum of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts Abroad in 2024; Vietnam Summer Camp 2024.
Accordingly, from August 21 to August 24, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will preside over and coordinate with relevant parties to organize the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese around the world; Forum of Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts Abroad 2024. Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang said that this is a big event and is considered as the "Dien Hong Conference" of overseas Vietnamese.
The organization of this event has been approved by the Prime Minister and it is expected that the Prime Minister will attend and give a speech at the opening session on the morning of August 22.

The previous three Overseas Vietnamese Conferences were held in 2009, 2012, and 2016. This year, the event's theme was "Overseas Vietnamese join hands to realize the aspiration to develop the country."
Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang said that this is an important channel for overseas Vietnamese from all over the world to exchange, contribute and offer advice for the construction and development of the country in the new situation. At the same time, it is also an opportunity for domestic agencies to grasp the situation, aspirations, difficulties and problems of overseas Vietnamese in order to promote policies and support activities.
It is expected that 600 people will attend this event, including 400 overseas Vietnamese delegates and 200 domestic delegates. The discussion topics are as follows:
- August 22: Opening session of the 4th Conference of Overseas Vietnamese around the world; Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts in 2024. Discussion topics of the forum include: "Overseas Vietnamese intellectuals and experts give advice on issues of green and sustainable development of the country", "Overseas Vietnamese and the development of high technology in Vietnam", "Overseas Vietnamese businesses and entrepreneurs accompany the country", "Great national unity, association work and the role of the young generation of overseas Vietnamese" and "Overseas Vietnamese - Ambassadors of Vietnamese culture and language".
- August 23: The program organizes for delegates to conduct field surveys, meet and exchange with local and domestic enterprises. Including visits to the High-Tech Park in Hanoi and some cultural and economic establishments in Vietnam.
Regarding the Vietnam Summer Camp 2024, Ms. Le Thi Thu Hang said that this is also an annual program (since 2003) chaired by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and coordinated with relevant parties. Thereby, it aims to create conditions for outstanding young overseas Vietnamese from all over the world to return to the country to learn about the traditions, culture and history of the nation.
This year's program has the theme "A Country Full of Joy", taking place from July 14 to July 29 and is expected to have 120 delegates from 27 countries and territories attending.

According to the program organizers, Vietnam Summer Camp 2024 will open in Hanoi, close in Ho Chi Minh City and go through the following localities: Phu Tho, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh), Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan. There are many activities throughout this program, typically paying tribute to ancestors and heroic martyrs; meeting and exchanging between overseas Vietnamese youth with each other and with domestic youth; learning about the history, culture, and traditional customs of the nation; visiting scenic spots, tangible and intangible culture of Vietnam.
Great contribution to the homeland of 6 million Vietnamese people living and working abroad
According to statistics, there are currently about 6 million Vietnamese people living and working in more than 130 countries and territories. Of these, there are more than 600,000 intellectuals with university degrees or higher. Data from the State Bank shows that in 2023, remittances to Vietnam will reach about 16 billion USD, an increase of 32% compared to 2022. The amount of remittances to Ho Chi Minh City alone will reach nearly 9.5 billion USD, an increase of 43.3% compared to 2022. This is considered the highest growth rate in the past 10 years.
