Women's Union of Dien An Commune: Many activities to support members

Ms. Pham Thi Thi (born in 1969, Phu An Nam 2 village) lives with her children and grandchildren in a rented house in the locality. Every day, she wakes up early in the morning to buy vegetables and fruits to sell. Every day, she earns about 100,000 VND from trading to take care of her family. Due to difficulties, she cannot afford to buy health insurance to see a doctor. Knowing her situation, the Women's Union of Dien An commune gave her a health insurance card so that she can see a doctor and get medicine when she is sick. Ms. Thi is one of 17 women in difficult circumstances who were given a health insurance card by the association in September 2024 from the source mobilized by benefactors. Along with that, the association gave gifts of necessities to support members. The association also promoted and mobilized women to continue paying quarterly to participate in health insurance. At the same time, it mobilized benefactors to have funds to renew health insurance for members who could not afford to continue buying. Up to now, the rate of female members participating in health insurance in the commune has reached 95%, contributing to the locality maintaining the commune meeting advanced new rural standards by 2024.

To help women in difficult circumstances have conditions to develop the economy , from 2021 to now, the Women's Union of Dien An commune has awarded 26 means of livelihood, worth nearly 23 million VND to poor, near-poor and disadvantaged women. Mrs. Pham Thi Ba (born in 1956, Phu An Nam 1 village) and her husband are both old and have many illnesses, so their labor capacity has decreased. Every day, Mrs. Ba tries to make tapioca cakes to sell, earning about 100,000 to 120,000 VND/day. In July 2023, the association gave her 20 breeding chickens worth 800,000 VND to raise and earn extra income. Mrs. Ba shared: “From the donated chickens, I not only raise chickens for meat, but also raise laying hens for eggs to sell and hatch chicks to continue raising. Thanks to that, I have more money to buy medicine or spend on family expenses”.

Implementing the program “Accompanying women in the border areas”, the association regularly visits, encourages, shares and gives gifts to women whose husbands work in coastal and island areas. Every month, on the 15th and 1st of the lunar month, the association coordinates with Tuy Tam Group to distribute about 240 free lunch boxes in Phu An Nam 1 village; distribute porridge, soy milk, fruit... at Dien Khanh District Medical Center.

In 2024, the whole commune had 15 poor households and 13 near-poor households. The Association has developed a plan to help poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged women develop their economy in many forms such as: Supporting loans from the Social Policy Bank, savings programs for poor women, revolving savings groups, providing means of livelihood... In which, helping 2 families borrow capital with an amount of 116 million VND; mobilizing donors to support 1 near-poor woman with 500,000 VND/month. The Association has also supported 3 women with serious illnesses with an amount of 1.5 million VND; coordinating with Tuy Tam Group and donors to give 187 gifts to poor and disadvantaged women with a total amount of more than 56 million VND... Implementing the "Godmother" program, the Association has mobilized donors to support 4 orphans up to 18 years old with a level of 3 to 6 million VND/year/child.

Ms. Pham Thi Hoa - President of the Women's Union of Dien Khanh district said that in recent times, the Women's Union of Dien An commune has actively implemented activities and programs to support female members in difficult circumstances in many forms. In particular, mobilizing resources to provide means of livelihood and health insurance to help women have conditions to develop their family economy and take care of their own health. In the coming time, the union needs to continue to expand practical programs and activities to support and care for members' lives, contributing to the locality's good implementation of social security work.
