This is a meaningful activity to encourage the learning spirit of students in mountainous areas, contributing to the movement "The whole country competes to build a learning society, promote lifelong learning in the period 2023 - 2030" launched by the Prime Minister.


Attending the program were Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Doan, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, President of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education; representatives of the Association for Promoting Education of Lao Cai province, Sa Pa town, and the Department of Education and Training of Lao Cai province.


Reporting on the work of promoting education in Lao Cai province, Ms. Duong Bich Nguyet, Director of the Department of Education and Training, President of the Lao Cai Provincial Association for Promoting Education, said: Implementing the direction of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, in recent years, the Association for Promoting Education at all levels in Lao Cai province has advised the Party Committee and the government, coordinated with the education and training sector to direct the implementation of many activities to promote education, encourage talents, build a learning society; promote the lifelong learning movement, especially through the construction of models of "Learning Family", "Learning Clan", "Learning Community", "Learning Unit" and recently the model of "Learning Citizen".
The ethnic people of Lao Cai province always promote the tradition of studiousness, strive to overcome difficulties to study well and reduce poverty. The scale and network of schools have been invested and developed to meet the learning needs of the people. The work of universalizing education and eliminating illiteracy has been firmly maintained in 100% of communes, wards and towns meeting the standards of universalizing primary education level 3; 70/152 communes, wards and towns meeting the standards of universalizing secondary education level 3; 152/152 communes, wards and towns meeting the standards of eliminating illiteracy level 2; achieving the goal of universalizing preschool education for 4-year-old children. The quality of education in Lao Cai is among the top in the Northern Midlands and Mountains provinces.


At the program, the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education awarded 200 scholarships worth a total of 200 million VND to students who have overcome difficulties to excel in their studies. These are students studying at educational institutions in mountainous and disadvantaged rural areas in the province, with good academic performance and good conduct, of which 166 are ethnic minorities.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan emphasized: These scholarships are not only a spiritual encouragement but also demonstrate the concern of the whole society for the cause of education, especially for students in difficult circumstances. We hope that this will be the motivation to help them continue to strive to become useful citizens for the country. The Vietnam Association for Promoting Education will continue to accompany students on their journey of knowledge, spreading the lifelong learning movement across the country.
