On March 3, 2025, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province approved in Decision No. 497 the contents of the project to adjust the general planning of Hoi An city for the period up to 2035, with a vision to 2050. According to the planning orientation to 2030, Hoi An will become a type II urban area according to specific criteria, divided into 04 sub-zones and 07 functional sub-zones with a natural area of ​​about 6,354 hectares, including mainland and island areas. Building Hoi An city, aiming to develop a core urban tourism area in the international heritage triangle: Hoi An - Cu Lao Cham - My Son, forming a Hoi An urban cluster in the relationship with neighboring areas. By 2050, Hoi An will be synchronously connected with the smart urban areas of Dien Ban town, Tam Ky city, Duy Xuyen district, Nui Thanh and the international urban development direction of "Ecology - Culture - Tourism".
