Perhaps the idea of 'Teaching AI to 1st graders' is to teach children to approach the applications of artificial intelligence, not the idea of training AI experts from 1st grade.

Yesterday, I read in the newspaper that a leader of a technology corporation proposed the idea of teaching artificial intelligence (AI) to children starting in first grade. Reading the article, I saw a supportive opinion from a parent. And of course, there will also be negative opinions from other parents.
I see teaching AI to students from grade 1 as an early approach. Perhaps this statement is just a side story rather than a full study of the impacts that AI brings to young children. This is the age when every educational proposal has to be studied very carefully.

What are the impacts of exposing children to AI early?
Affects children's creativity
Children between the ages of 6-12 are in a period of strong development of creative thinking.
If children are exposed too early to technology, especially AI, which can automate many thinking activities, they can easily become dependent on technology instead of practicing creativity and independent thinking.
Young children are not cognitive enough to understand AI.
AI is a complex technology, and users are required to have critical thinking skills.
At a young age, children do not have enough foundation to understand how AI works, so they easily receive information passively and without verification.
Impact on the development of social communication skills
Exposure to technology too early can reduce a child’s ability to interact socially. At this age, children need to be encouraged to develop communication skills, teamwork and real-life experiences instead of spending too much time in front of screens and using technology passively.
At what age can children be trained to use AI?
Nowadays, children have basic computer skills quite early. The appropriate age to train children to access AI applications should start from 12 years old.
We can start with fundamental skills like logical thinking, problem solving skills before delving into AI.
On the other hand, AI training should be accompanied by an educational program on "Technology Ethics". Children need to be taught how to use AI responsibly, avoid fraud or abuse of AI for bad purposes.
Aim to use AI as a support tool, instead of letting children passively depend on technology.
Teaching AI to young children requires a scientific and responsible approach.
We are not against AI, but we need to ensure that AI education for young children is truly in the best interests of the development of a future generation.
