Quang Tri students won first and third prizes at the 2024 National Science and Technology Competition

According to information from the Department of Education and Training, Quang Tri has just had 2 projects by students of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted participating in the National Science and Technology Competition for high school students in the 2023-2024 school year, winning first and third prizes.

Accordingly, the project "Gloves that convert sign language into natural language for deaf and mute people" in the field of robots and smart machines by student Tran Ngoc Long (grade 11 Physics), won the first prize, and was selected to participate in the project selection round to participate in the International Science and Technology Competition. The project product is a pair of electronic gloves that support deaf and mute people to communicate in natural language with normal people through sign language conversion with many outstanding features: integrated phone software to play sound and display communication content; handling drifting phenomena using a deep learning model to draw accurate trajectories on the IMU module; 2-way communication between normal people and deaf and mute people in both English and Vietnamese; converting separate words of sign language into a complete sentence in a natural language suitable for the communication process.

The project “eLab - Virtual reality education system supporting innovation in teaching and learning of the 2018 General Education Program” in the field of system software by the group of students Le Duc Luu and Nguyen Ngoc Anh Tuan (grade 12 IT), won the third prize. The product is virtual reality software that has built a process and programmed a set of tools to automatically create a complete lesson from the content exploited and designed according to the 2018 General Education Program.

The software has outstanding functions such as: observing and interacting with invisible quantities (force vectors, types of substances, etc.); interacting with objects at the cellular, molecular, and atomic levels; performing dangerous experiments (difficult to perform in real conditions) or objects that cannot be reproduced in general classroom conditions; integrating an artificial intelligence virtual tutor to lecture and ask and answer questions with students by voice.

It is known that the competition took place for 3 days from March 20 to 22, in Bac Giang province, organized by the Ministry of Education and Training in coordination with the People's Committee of Bac Giang province, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technical Innovation (VIFOTEC).

This year's competition had 74 participating units, including 62 provinces and cities and 12 units from universities and the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences with 149 projects in 21 fields by 283 contestants. The Organizing Committee awarded prizes to 77/149 projects, including 10 First prizes, 17 Second prizes, 23 Third prizes and 27 Fourth prizes.
