International experts discuss at the workshop |
On the morning of December 10, the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) organized a workshop on "Orientation of financial education for Vietnamese high school students". Attending the workshop were educational managers, international experts, teachers and representatives from international organizations.
According to Professor Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences, personal financial management is not simply about earning money or saving, but is a comprehensive combination of income, spending, saving, investing and risk management.
At the same time, this also involves building personal habits and behaviors, combined with knowledge of financial products and services. However, many Vietnamese people are still unfamiliar with basic financial concepts, so financial education right from school is a strategic and urgent step.
Recognizing the importance of improving financial literacy, within the framework of the cooperation between UNICEF and the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences for the period 2024-2025, a component on "Adapting financial education materials for Vietnamese students" has been developed. This set of materials will be piloted in a number of provinces representing 6 socio-economic regions of Vietnam.
Prof. Dr. Le Anh Vinh hopes that through the workshop, international experts and scientists will share experiences and contribute ideas to effectively integrate financial education content into the 2018 general education program.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quoc Khanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, emphasized the importance of orienting financial education in general education programs. According to Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Quoc Khanh, to achieve effectiveness, schools need to integrate financial education content into the curriculum through subjects and extracurricular activities. At the same time, teachers need to be equipped with professional skills to convey knowledge in an easy-to-understand and close-to-student manner.
At the workshop, experts and representatives of organizations shared experiences and methods of financial education for high school students in Vietnam, including developing appropriate curriculum, using digital financial tools in teaching, and sharing learning resources to support financial learning.
In addition, the workshop also discussed improving the quality of teachers, equipping students with basic financial knowledge, and orienting the development of sustainable financial education in the Vietnamese education system.
According to Ms. Le Anh Lan, UNICEF education expert in Vietnam, financial education should not only provide basic knowledge, but also focus on in-depth understanding of personal financial management skills such as spending, saving, investing and risk management. To do this, teachers need to be equipped with specialized knowledge of financial education, and at the same time understand students' psychology as well as the barriers they may encounter when approaching financial concepts.
