On the morning of October 11, at Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted in Hue, a ceremony was held to celebrate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and the ASEAN Day for Disaster Management 2024 with the theme "Empowering the Young Generation for a Safe Future from Disasters".
At the ceremony, Hoang Le Giang My, a 12th grade history major student at Quoc Hoc Hue High School, raised the issue of the role, responsibility, and empowerment of the younger generation in preventing and fighting natural disasters for a safe future. Is it too much for the younger generation?

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that empowering the young generation and their role in preventing and fighting natural disasters for a safe future is completely correct.
"Your responsibility, first of all, is to ensure that you have enough skills and knowledge to keep yourself safe from natural disasters. Then, with your own understanding, you will spread and support your loved ones and the community where you live and study to be safer from natural disasters," Mr. Hiep explained.

According to the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, the young generation needs to access knowledge to have a correct view and understanding of natural disasters and reduce disaster risks at the family, school, and community levels.
When able to protect themselves, with enthusiasm, young people are positive factors to share and support the community, becoming factors that create change in reducing natural disaster risks.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province, said that every year, this locality regularly faces natural disasters such as storms, floods, and landslides, typically the historic flood in 1999 and the flood in 2020.
To develop sustainably in an increasingly harsh natural disaster environment, Thua Thien Hue province has closely followed and effectively implemented target programs and national strategies on natural disaster prevention and control, action frameworks with a human-centered approach to disaster risk reduction, with children and youth playing an important role.
