Speaking at the program, Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union, Chairman of the Hanoi City Youth Union Council Dao Duc Viet shared: The historical witness exchange program "Telling historical stories - Fueling tradition" is an opportunity to pay tribute to those who have devoted and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. The people who contributed to the great victory in the spring of 1975 have given new motivation to the young generation to compete in studying, working, contributing and continuing to write heroic and glorious pages of history for the country today and tomorrow...
Speaking at the program, veteran An Manh Hung said that he was a soldier of the E229 Engineering Staff, Engineering Command, directly participating in the battle at Quang Tri Citadel in the period of 1972-1973, at Sepon - Laos in 1974 and participating in the Spring Campaign in 1975.
Before joining the army, Mr. An Manh Hung was a second-year student at the University of Mining and Geology. Mr. Hung said that it was a time when the whole country was boiling with enthusiasm to go to war with the spirit of "As long as the country exists, the enemy will continue to fight, the battlefield urges the troops to march", "The most beautiful life is on the front line fighting the enemy"... "Not only me, but teachers, students and all young people really wanted to contribute their efforts to the battlefield to liberate the South and unify the country, then return to school", Mr. Hung said.

Also a student volunteering to join the army, Mr. Phung Huy Thinh joined the army when he was a second-year student of the Faculty of Literature, University of General Sciences. Talking about the days of fighting in the Quang Tri battlefield, especially in the Quang Tri Citadel, Mr. Thinh and Mr. Hung both used the word "fierce". Every inch of the Quang Tri Citadel was soaked with the blood and bones of our soldiers.
“It is strange that we did not die in the battle in Quang Tri, because of luck, thanks to God,” Mr. Thinh said emotionally and said: “We fought with a spirit and military strength that was completely inferior to the US Empire. But it was that spirit that after 81 days and nights, we turned the tide, to have the Paris Agreement to end the war and restore peace in Vietnam.”

In his message to today's young generation, Mr. Hung emphasized: The peace of our country must be paid for with the blood and bones of thousands, tens of thousands of soldiers, the youth of countless generations. In Quang Tri alone, there are 55,000 martyrs' graves in two national cemeteries and many other martyrs' cemeteries throughout the province. Therefore, the young generation of today needs to cherish the values of peace, independence, freedom and unity of the country; strive to study and practice to contribute to building the country, entering a new era.
Mr. Thinh also hopes that, in the current conditions of national development and international integration, young people need to learn the quintessence and good things from countries around the world; along with thinking capacity, level and cultural behavior, each person needs to be well equipped with the ability to act.
Listening to the sharing of two historical witnesses, young party member of Tran Phu High School - Hoan Kiem Tran Dieu Linh said that she felt lucky to be born and raised in peace and unity. "Appreciating this, each of us young people is more aware of our responsibility in studying and training to improve ourselves and participate in building the country," Dieu Linh shared.
