According to the instructions, students in grade 12 can register for the high school graduation exam from April 21 to April 28.

From April 21 to 5:00 p.m. on April 28, educational institutions will organize for candidates to register for high school graduation exams online and enter exam registration forms and register for graduation recognition for candidates who submit their applications online.

Grade 12 candidates in the 2024-2025 school year will take the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 general education program.

Independent candidates who have not graduated from high school can choose to take the exam according to the 2006 general education program or the 2018 general education program.

Exam papers for the 2025 exam not only test knowledge but focus more on assessing the ability to apply knowledge into practice.

Accordingly, there will be many questions built from real-life situations in science and society, helping candidates clearly see the connection between the knowledge they have learned and the world around them.

Candidates taking the high school graduation exam will take 4 subjects, including 2 compulsory subjects: math, literature and 2 elective subjects from the subjects with scores in the high school education program, which are the subjects the candidate has chosen to study at high school level.

Candidates with foreign language certificates that meet the requirements are still allowed to use them for exam exemption but cannot be converted into 10 points in the high school graduation recognition consideration as before.

Candidates will not be awarded vocational points as before, this is done according to the design of the new general education program.

From 2025, foreign candidates studying high school in Vietnam will be allowed to use Vietnamese language certificates to be exempted from the literature exam in graduation recognition.

The organization of the 2025 high school graduation exam will continue to be assigned to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to preside over and be responsible for all stages of the exam such as printing exam questions, invigilation, grading, etc.

According to the new guidelines issued on July 16, 2025, the examination councils will announce the exam results. The Departments of Education and Training will complete the recognition of high school graduation by July 18, 2025 and issue temporary certificates, return transcripts, and related certificates (originals) to students by July 22, 2025.

The 2025 high school graduation exam aims to evaluate high school graduation, assess the quality of teaching at the high school level, and at the same time allow schools to use the exam results for university and college admissions.

To ensure fairness for candidates who only use the admission method based on high school graduation exam scores compared to candidates who have access to many other admission methods, the Ministry of Education and Training has adjusted the admission regulations, including removing the early admission regulation.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that training institutions must convert admission scores of admission methods and combinations to a common admission score.

Admission quotas will not be divided according to each method or combination, but will be taken from top to bottom until the quota is exhausted based on the converted admission scores.
