Student seriously injured at school but principal slow to handle, district 'will handle strictly'

According to Tuoi Tre Online 's investigation and information provided by the school, the incident of a 4th grade student (name withheld) suffering injuries to the The incident occurred on the morning of January 15, 2025 during class at Ten Tan Primary School, Muong Lat District (Thanh Hoa).

After being injured, this student had a stomachache and could not attend physical education class on the morning of January 15, so the homeroom teacher called the student's parents to take the student home.

That evening, the student's mother was washing clothes when she discovered dried blood stains on the victim's pants.

When asked by parents, the student said he was injured at school due to using a stick (a stick made for learning "gymnastics with a stick", the size of a first grader's wrist, 70cm long) to play around, leaning on the end of the stick with both hands, the other end pressed down on the ground and jumping over his crotch, unfortunately his hand slipped and stabbed his private area causing injury.

The family then took the student to Muong Lat District General Hospital, then Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital for treatment.

Up to now, after many surgeries and treatments, the student has returned to school.

What is causing public outrage in the locality is that after the incident in which a student was seriously injured at school, Mr. Pham Dang Dung - principal of Ten Tan Primary School - did not report to the leaders of the District People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training of Muong Lat.

After nearly three weeks, on February 6, after public opinion and the press reflected and intervened, Mr. Pham Dang Dung reported the incident to the leaders of the District People's Committee and the Department of Education and Training.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Pham Dang Dung admitted: "When an incident of injury to a student occurred at school, the school board did not promptly report it to superiors to ask for direction on how to resolve it."

After receiving the school's report, the district People's Committee leaders established an inspection team to verify the incident that occurred at the above school.

According to information from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital, a student from Ten Tan Primary School was admitted to the hospital on January 21 with genital trauma, perineal tear, and rectal tear due to a domestic accident. The hospital performed surgery and treated the patient twice, stabilizing his health.

The patient's family is near-poor, and during the patient's treatment, the hospital supported and gave charitable gifts.

The district will take action and handle it seriously.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Ha Van Ca - Secretary of Muong Lat District Party Committee - said: "The Standing Committee of the District Party Committee has received information about the incident that occurred at Ten Tan Primary School. The leaders of the District Party Committee have assigned the District People's Committee to establish an inspection team to verify and clarify the incident at this school."

"The district leaders' viewpoint is to strictly handle individuals and groups that commit violations at Ten Tan Primary School," affirmed Mr. Ha Van Ca.

On the afternoon of April 5, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Le Trung Kien - Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Training of Muong Lat district - said: "The district's inspection team has reported to the standing leaders of the District Party Committee on the results of the verification of the incident that occurred at Ten Tan Primary School and is waiting for the results of the handling by superiors."

According to Article 56 of the 2019 Law on Education, "The principal is the person responsible for managing and operating the school's activities, appointed or recognized by a competent authority."
