On August 23, at the 18th session, delegates of the People's Council of Bac Lieu province agreed to regulate tuition fees for public preschool and general education institutions in the province for the 2024-2025 school year.
Specifically, boarding preschool: 40,000-80,000 VND/month (rural - urban areas); non-boarding preschool: 30,000-60,000 VND/month; junior high school: 30,000-60,000 VND/month; high school: 35,000-70,000 VND/month.
In case of online learning, the tuition fee is 80% of the tuition fee for each level of study.
Bac Lieu Provincial People's Council proposed that public educational institutions collect tuition fees based on the actual number of months of study, but not more than 9 months/school year.
Regulations on policies on tuition exemption, reduction, support for study costs, and support for tuition payments for beneficiaries are implemented according to regulations.
Ms. Tran Thi Huynh Dao, Head of the Culture - Social Committee (Bac Lieu Provincial People's Council), said that the regulation of tuition fees ensures compliance with regulations and is suitable to the current contribution capacity of the people.
"Since 2016, the province has not increased tuition fees, which shows the provincial leaders' concern for the education sector and sharing with the people," Ms. Dao informed.
In the new school year, the Department of Culture and Society requested the Provincial People's Committee to direct localities and public educational institutions to review students eligible for tuition exemption and reduction in the area; support students who are not eligible for tuition exemption and reduction but are in difficult circumstances through mobilized resources, creating conditions for students to go to school.
The Department of Education and Training directs public educational institutions to strictly implement regulations on revenues at the unit to ensure publicity and transparency.
"Although tuition fees for the new school year have not increased, there are some expenses that have increased, such as books, notebooks, school supplies, and health insurance. To reduce the financial pressure on students, the Department needs to direct the collection of tuition fees in each period. For fees other than tuition fees, they must be divided reasonably, not concentrating too many fees at the beginning of the year," Ms. Dao suggested.
The leaders of the Department of Culture and Society also requested that all sectors and levels strengthen inspection and examination of public educational institutions in organizing non-tuition fees and funds to support educational activities; minimize funds raised from parents and absolutely do not allow overcharging to occur.
