Professor Scott Fritzen, the new President of Fulbright University Vietnam, is known as a prestigious scholar in the field of public policy and an experienced leader at major universities around the world.

Today (June 8), Fulbright University Vietnam officially announced the person who will take on the position of President from July 1.
According to the announcement, after a global search for a promising candidate, Professor Fritzen was selected by the Board of Trustees of Fulbright University Vietnam to succeed Ms. Dam Bich Thuy, Founding President, upon her retirement at the end of the 2022-2023 academic year.
Professor Fritzen currently serves as Director of the David L. Boren School of International Studies, Associate Dean for Global Engagement, and William J. Crow Distinguished Professor of Geopolitics at the University of Oklahoma (USA).
He served as a member of the leadership team for educational innovation initiatives at New York University Shanghai (where he served as the school's first Vice-Chancellor) and at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, where he was a founding faculty member and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

Professor Fritzen has also taught and served as Associate Director and Interim Director at the Robert R. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University and as Director of the International Executive Education Management Program at the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Washington (USA).
Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, Mr. Fritzen graduated with a BA in cultural anthropology from Michigan State University. At Princeton University, he completed a master's degree in public administration, urban and regional planning, and a doctorate in public administration and international relations.
During 1997-1998, he was the first American citizen to receive a Fulbright scholarship to conduct research in post-war Vietnam. He also served as a consultant to Southeast Asian governments and international organizations operating in the region.
Sharing about this new position, Professor Fritzen said: "I feel humbled and honored by the opportunity to become the new President of Fulbright University Vietnam."
He added: "What President Dam Bich Thuy, the Board of Trustees, and the university's excellent students, faculty, and staff have achieved in just eight years since Fulbright was established is truly extraordinary. It is also a solid foundation that I hope to join hands with you to contribute to the continuous development of Fulbright - a Vietnamese university with the mission of improving the quality of research and teaching as well as striving to bring useful and groundbreaking initiatives to serve Vietnamese society and solve global problems."
In addition to taking on the role of President, Mr. Fritzen will also be a lecturer in the public policy and leadership program. Professor Fritzen shared: "I have full confidence in the school's mission that: together, we will nurture in the young generation of Vietnam the spirit of daring to think, daring to do, and the desire to create positive impacts for the community and society. The foundation of a leading Vietnamese university worthy of international stature must come from the intellect and passion of educators who always aim for the highest standards in research and teaching quality. In my role as President of the school, I pledge to do my best to provide students and lecturers with the necessary resources, helping the school to grow with all its potential and aspirations."

Prior to joining Fulbright University Vietnam, Mr. Fritzen was a distinguished scholar with in-depth research on public management and leadership, public administrative reform, social policy and corruption. He is the author, co-author and editor of 6 books and a series of scientific research articles, many of which were conducted in Vietnam.
"The first time I came to Vietnam was nearly 30 countries ago. At that time, I was just a young graduate student. Since then, I have felt a deeper and stronger connection to the country and people of Vietnam. I am eager to return to live in Vietnam and once again consider this home for me, my wife and children," Mr. Fritzen shared.
In a letter to the Fulbright University Vietnam community, Mr. Thomas Vallely, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the school, commented: "Professor Fritzen is an experienced university administrator with many outstanding achievements, from building and laying the foundation for new universities, to innovating and developing long-standing educational institutions thanks to his strategic vision and sharp development orientation."

Fulbright University Vietnam is the first independent, not-for-profit university operating under the liberal education model in Vietnam.
