Students of the integrated English program (Project 5695) at secondary school in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
On August 20, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City provided guidance on some contents of implementing the integrated English program (Project 5695) for the subjects of English, mathematics, natural sciences (KHTN), physics, chemistry, and biology from the 2024-2025 school year.
Number of periods and assessment in secondary school
Accordingly, secondary school students will study English, math and natural sciences of the UK national program for 8 periods/week including 3 English periods, 2 math periods, 3 natural sciences; the Vietnamese general program is implemented according to the 2018 General Education Program in the corresponding subjects each week: 1 English period, 2 math periods, 2 natural sciences periods.
Regarding the testing and assessment of secondary school students studying the integrated English program, the Department of Education and Training stipulates that 2 columns of regular assessment scores for English of the UK national program are converted into 2 columns of regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program; One column of regular assessment scores for math of the UK national program is converted into one column of regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program; and Regular assessment scores for Natural Science of the UK national program are converted into regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program.
The final assessment score of English in the UK national program is converted into the final assessment score of the Vietnamese general education program. The final assessment score of Math and Natural Science is converted into the mid-term assessment score of the Vietnamese program.
Students of integrated English program at high school level
Number of lessons and assessment of high school
For high school level, students will study English, math, physics, chemistry, and biology of the UK national program, 15 periods/week including 4 English periods, 4 math periods, 7 periods of physics and physics cluster or chemistry and chemistry cluster or biology and biology cluster.
In the Vietnamese general education program implemented according to the 2018 General Education Program, students will study corresponding subjects each week: 1 English period for non-major classes, 3 English periods for English major classes, 2 math periods, 1 physics period and physics cluster, 1 chemistry period and chemistry cluster, 1 biology period and biology cluster.
Regarding the testing and assessment of high school students studying the integrated English program, the Department of Education and Training stipulates that the two columns of regular assessment scores for English and math in the UK national program are converted into two columns of regular assessment scores in the Vietnamese general education program. As for physics, chemistry, and biology, the regular assessment scores of the UK national program are converted into one column of regular assessment scores for physics, one column of regular assessment scores for chemistry, and one column of regular assessment scores for biology in the Vietnamese general education program.
The final assessment scores of English in the UK national program are converted into the final assessment scores of the Vietnamese general education program. The final assessment scores of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology in the UK national program are converted into the mid-term assessment scores of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology in the Vietnamese general education program...
For 12th grade students, the Department of Education and Training guides high schools to teach, test and evaluate English, math, physics, chemistry and biology according to the above regulations in semester 1. In semester 2, schools will implement teaching time and test and evaluate according to the Vietnamese program.
The Department of Education and Training also requires Vietnamese teachers and foreign teachers of the integrated English program to coordinate to ensure teaching content and duration.
For schools that teach 2 sessions/day, they can arrange more time to closely follow and improve the subjects of English, Math, Natural Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology to help students improve their learning quality and meet the output standards required by the integrated English program according to the decision on Project 5695 issued by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
