On the evening of September 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR) announced that on September 14-15, the unit and the contractor deployed the installation of the last pedestrian bridge girder span at Thu Duc station, the girder spans have a span length of 32 to 33.5m and a load capacity of 74.5 to 78 tons.
The pedestrian bridge is one of the final construction items of the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City.
This is an important milestone, marking the completion of connecting all pedestrian bridges of metro line 1, in time to put the project into commercial operation by the end of 2024.
According to the investor, the contractor is also urgently speeding up the progress of completing the pedestrian bridge architecture. Basically, the architectural items at 7 out of 9 stations, Tan Cang, Thao Dien, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai and Cong Nghe Cao have been completed.
There are 9 pedestrian bridges built along the route, mainly on Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue - Hanoi Highway, connecting to the station's transit level. Depending on the location, each bridge is 80-150m long, about 3.5m wide, and nearly 5m high.
It is expected that the last two pedestrian bridges at Thu Duc station and National University will be completed in October, in time for fire prevention and fighting inspection and acceptance to complete the project and put it into commercial operation by the end of 2024.
Machinery and engineers regularly operate and construct pedestrian bridges at night.
The investor is coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and related units to issue an official announcement on the removal of traffic bans and restrictions in the Thu Duc steel overpass area.
Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, nearly 20km long, from Long Binh depot (Thu Duc) to Ben Thanh (District 1).
In addition to 11 elevated stations, the line also has 3 underground stations in the city center: Ben Thanh, City Theater and Ba Son.
The project is more than 98% complete and is in the process of assessing system safety, testing fire prevention and fighting, training operational personnel, and constructing pedestrian bridges. According to plan, Metro Line 1 will officially operate by the end of 2024.
