Speaking at a press conference at the United Nations, the Russian Foreign Minister expressed: "We will cooperate and are always ready to work with any American leader elected by the American people as well as those who have good will to participate in a fair and mutually respectful dialogue."

According to Mr. Lavrov, Washington had repeatedly imposed sanctions on Moscow during Donald Trump's tenure as US President, however: "At that time, our dialogue took place at the highest level. Currently, there is no such dialogue."

When asked about the running mate of former President Trump - Senator JD Vance, a fierce opponent of US aid policy for Ukraine, Foreign Minister Lavrov appreciated this politician's point of view.

"He is in favor of peace, in favor of ending the support that is being provided, and we can only welcome it because that is what we need - to stop supplying weapons to Ukraine and then the conflict will end," the Russian foreign minister made clear.

Previously, in May 2023, former President Trump declared that he could end the war in Ukraine “in 24 hours” if he returned to the White House. The Republican politician was often attacked by Democrats for being too soft on Russia.

Meanwhile, Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance said that if he wins, "Trump will negotiate with Russia to quickly end the conflict in Ukraine" so that the US can focus on the real problem, "which is China", noting that negotiations will avoid the risk of escalation and nuclear war.

Mr. Vance is known for his many statements about the conflict in Ukraine, including calling for negotiations with Moscow and criticizing Washington's multibillion-dollar military aid to Kiev.

Mr. Trump's "deputy" also affirmed that Ukraine's goal of restoring the 1991 border is unrealistic and that resolving the conflict requires strengthening the country's neutrality as well as freezing territorial disputes.

On July 15, Mr. JD Vance, a young senator from Ohio, was chosen by Mr. Trump as his running mate for Vice President of the United States in the 2024 election.

Senator JD Vance, whose full name is James David Vance, was born on August 2, 1984, into a middle-class family in Middletown, Ohio. Mr. JD Vance graduated from Ohio University, Yale Law School, and served in the US Marine Corps in Iraq.

He was elected to the Ohio Senate in 2022 and will begin his term in January 2023.
