More than 50 domestic and international experts attended the event, including: representatives of management agencies under the Ministry of Health, representatives of local Departments of Health and public hospitals, and experts from Oxford University (UK), ACHS International & Consulting (under the Australian Council for Healthcare Standards ACHS), Strasys (UK), FPT Group, etc.
Vietnam's healthcare sector is facing increasing demand for health care from its people due to population growth and aging and improved living standards.
According to Dr. Duong Huy Luong, statistics from many years ago show that Vietnamese people spend about 2 billion USD each year to go abroad for medical treatment, this number could increase to 3 - 4 billion USD in the near future.
Therefore, solution groups aiming to become a regional healthcare center need to focus on comprehensive promotion on many factors, from training high-quality medical human resources, investing in good infrastructure, developing specialized healthcare, medical tourism combining modern medicine and traditional medicine, promoting digital transformation, research, development, innovation, simplifying administrative procedures related to medical examination and treatment activities, competitive medical costs, etc.
According to MSc.Dr. Dilshaad Ali Bin Abas Ali, General Director of Hoan My Medical Group, to meet the needs of patients, especially in the context of a growing and aging population, the healthcare industry needs to transform from a hospital-centric model to a “patient-centered” model.
With this new model, the healthcare industry not only focuses on the patient experience at the hospital but also needs to build a system that can provide healthcare services at home through digital applications. This model, if successfully implemented, will help reduce medical costs for patients.
Currently, Hoan My Medical Group is building a multi-brand healthcare ecosystem, combining the power of data technology to bring a seamless, continuous experience to patients whether at home or in the hospital.
Another important element of healthcare transformation that delegates were interested in discussing was the ability to access healthcare services with a fair healthcare model for the people. Besides the rapid growth of the middle class with higher ability to pay for healthcare, the majority of Vietnamese people are still looking for private healthcare services with better quality at reasonable costs. Therefore, the transformation of the healthcare sector needs to meet the needs of high-income people to bring 2 billion USD of overseas medical expenses back to Vietnam, as well as the needs of middle and lower-middle income people.
With hospitals and clinics in Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City and the goal of expanding nationwide, the Thuan My network helps people with average incomes easily access quality medical services.
At the event, international experts also brought analytical reports and solutions on healthcare transformation from countries with advanced healthcare systems such as the UK and Australia. In particular, two experts from Strasys - Mr. Nadeem Moghal, CEO and Mr. Mark Jennings, Director of Solutions & Services shared about integrated healthcare systems and practical lessons in innovation from traditional care systems to effective and sustainable care service approaches on a large scale. Strasys is a leading consultancy on analytics and innovation in the healthcare sector in the UK.
At the same time, with the development trend of the digital age, healthcare processes are inevitably optimized by data flows between medical devices and computer models. At the event, speaker James Anibal - Researcher in healthcare technology and wearable devices - Oxford University, shared about the healthcare model with the support of digital technology. Although there are many challenges, this model has proven its potential and advantages in optimizing costs, time and accessibility for patients. In the future, artificial intelligence (AI) applications can help medical teams around the world minimize errors in the examination and treatment process, thereby improving the quality of healthcare.
Currently, the vision of the health sector is to strive to make Vietnam a country that attracts tourism - health - medical - resort within the next 20 years, contributing foreign currency to the national budget, creating motivation to upgrade the hospital system to become a "medical industry" in the future. In particular, one of the tasks of developing Ho Chi Minh City by 2030, with a vision to 2045, is to build an advanced, modern health system, applying high technology and techniques, developing a number of fields to approach world-class technology, aiming to become a health care center in the ASEAN region.
