In an announcement on March 21, the UK's largest airport, Heathrow (in London), said that the airport will be temporarily closed due to a power outage.
According to the announcement, a fire broke out at a transformer station supplying electricity to the airport, causing a serious power outage. As a safety precaution, Heathrow will be closed until 23:59 on the same day.
It is expected that about 1,351 flights landing and taking off at Heathrow will be affected, at least 120 flights arriving at Heathrow will have to be diverted, and some American planes will have to turn back mid-way to return to the airport.
